Introducing Maria Smith, FNP, PMHNP-BC
Maria Smith is a Board Certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner and Family Nurse Practitioner. She treats children, adolescents and adults.
Prior to becoming a Nurse Practitioner, Maria studied Marriage and Family and practiced as a Licensed Professional Counselor for 15 years. During this time, she worked with children and adolescents in several clinical settings including outpatient clinics, Batson Children’s Hospital, Children’s Advocacy Center, pediatric residential treatment facilities and with adults and youth in private practice. Maria then completed BSN and MSN/Family Nurse Practitioner programs at UMMC working in Pediatrics, ICU and in Oncology where she acted as Director of the Radiation Oncology Survivorship Program with a focus on implementing mental health care for pediatric and adult cancer patients. She continued her priority of working in Psychiatry/mental health treatment by completing the Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner program (UMMC). She has worked as PMHNP in outpatient and inpatient settings with adult and child/adolescent patients.
Maria manages treatment for children/adolescents and adults for the following: ADHD, anxiety, depression, OCD, PTSD, panic disorder, eating disorders, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia and other Psychiatric issues.
In her free time, Maria enjoys spending time with family and friends, running, yard work and reading.
