No symptoms, but still worried about potential lung cancer from a history of smoking?

The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force recommends yearly lung cancer screening with low-dose computed tomography (also called a low-dose CT scan, or LDCT) for people who:

• Have a 20 pack-year* or more smoking history, and
• Smoke now or have quit within the past 15 years, and
• Are between 50 and 80 years old.

During an LDCT scan, you lie on a table and an X-ray machine uses a low dose (amount) of radiation to make detailed images of your lungs. The scan only takes a few minutes and is not painful. The screening, when there are no symptoms or history of that disease, allows doctors to find lung cancer early, when treatment may work better. If you fit the recommended screening criteria, talk to your primary care physician about getting a referral to [Hospital] for a low-dose CT scan. If you’re looking for a local Pulmonologist, visit [Anytime link or Hospital Find-A-Provider link ].

*A pack-year is smoking an average of one pack of ci******es per day for one year. For example, a person could have a 20 pack-year history by smoking one pack a day for 20 years or two packs a day for 10 years.

Take the advice you give your kids, “Make good choices!”… and if you are considered pre-diabetic, the best choice you can make is to regularly monitor your blood sugar trends with a test called A1C. You can get your A1C checked with your primary care provider, who can order an A1C test to help you know your levels.

Kentucky River Medical Center is expanding occupational therapy services! Neuroadaptive occupational therapy intensives are now available with Kristina Miller-Gibson, OTD, OTR/L. Space is limited.

What are Neuroadaptive occupational therapy intensives? Neuroadaptive occupational therapy intensives for autism spectrum disorders are high-frequency, short-term, specialized therapy sessions that last approximately 2 hours daily, for 5 days. These neuro-intensives are designed to promote neuroplasticity and rapid skill acquisition. Neuroadaptive occupational therapy intensives target sensory processing, motor skills, and daily living activities for children with neurological impairments, aiming to overcome plateaus and enhance functional independence through concentrated, repetitive, and individualized intervention.
The Neuro-based approach utilizes neuro-developmental strategies and techniques such as photo biomodulation (low level laser therapy), and other specialized equipment.
Neuroadaptive occupational therapy intensives focus on:
• heavily emphasize sensory integration
• motor coordination
• reflex integration
• oral motor development using multisensory techniques
for children with autism spectrum disorders and other neurological disorders.

Some benefits may include:
• shorter times to see improvement
• brain stimulation to rewire, promoting faster, longer-lasting skill retention

Questions or to inquire about a session, call 606-666-6413.
