Dana Marquita Boman departed this life at Ochsner Choctaw General on December 29, 2025. She was born on October 3, 1984 to Naomi Boman and Cleveland Roberria Garner.

A member of the Washington County High School Class of 2003, she continued her education at Alabama Southern Community College (AKA Coastal Alabama Community College) where she earned her cosmetology degree, as well as obtaining her CDL. She was truly a dedicated bus driver for the Choctaw County Board of Education and an outstanding beautician. Her greatest dedication was toward the children.

Dana united with the Mt. Bethel Baptist Church at an early age.

She leaves to cherish her memories her long-life partner of 19 years, Rayshawn Foster; mother, Naomi Boman; father, Cleveland Roberria (Minister JoAnne) Garner; mother-in-love, Pearl Foster; one sister, Tammy B. Scruggs; four brothers, Vincent (Keatrice) Boman, Kendrick (Rebecca) Boman, Derrick Boman and Embrel Williams; seven aunts, Jessie Mae Boman, Dora Mae Bonds, Ollie Pearl Green, Willie Ruth Donaldson, Norma Seals and Cecilia (Manuel) Godwin, and Marilyn Williams; six great-aunts, Hubertha Boman, Clara Todd, Deloris Dean, Janet (Eddie) James, Dannie (Arthur) Spencer and Bettye Ludgood; two uncles, Porter (Vernice) Boman Jr. and Joe D. Boman; three great-uncles, Tommy Lankford, John (Carolyn) Massey and George (Clotile) Massey; loved as sons, Javantea and Jayden Foster; god-daughter, A’niyla Kirksey; god-mother, Delois Snowden; two honorary cousins, Norman Shipp and Anthony (Sophia) Rogers; with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Martha Franks Bishop was born September 23, 1932 to the parentage of Estus and Ezella Lockhart in State Line, Mississippi. She departed this life for eternity Saturday. December 27, 2025 in Mobile, Alabama.

Martha accepted Christ at an early age and united with Mt. Mariah Missionary Baptist Church in State Line.

Later in life, she married Nathaniel Franks, Sr. They lived in various locations throughout Mississippi and Alabama. They relocated to Chatom, AL in the early '60s and united with Lilly Grove Baptist Church.

As a faithful member of Lilly Grove, Mother Bishop served in many capacities until her health failed. She served faithfully as Mother of the Church, member of the Golden Agers, and served as Church Secretary, Mission President, choir member, Adult Sunday School Teacher, Certified Instructor/Blandon Springs Baptist Association BTU Congress, and Evangelistic Counselor for Lilly Grove Evangelism Committee.

Mother Bishop was also a foster parent for the Washington Department of Human Resources for a number of years, as well as a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, St. Stephens Alabama Branch.

Mother Bishop was employed as a cook at Taylor Motel & Restaurant in Chatom for a number of years. Later, she was employed as a sewing machine operator with CAM Corporation, eventually becoming a supervisor, she worked there until retirement.

Upon retirement, she added a sewing room to her home. With her Singer Sewing Machines, she designed, altered and mended many a garment for the community and surrounding area.

Mother Bishop was an excellent cook and hostess. Her signature dishes were German chocolate, chocolate layer and pound cakes, chicken dressing and dumplings. She loved to invite people to her home to enjoy a delicious meal.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Estus and Ezella Lockhart; seven brothers: Joe, Samuel, L.D., Richard, Melvin, Amos and Howard Lockhart; three sisters: Opal Franks, Delma Dockery and Doris Leverett; children: Nathaniel Jr., James and Jonathan Franks and Ella F. Woodard.

Mother Bishop leaves to cherish her legacy and precious memories, her sister, Elouise Walley of State Line, MS; daughter, Evelyn (Earnest, Sr.) Moore, St. Stephens, AL; daughter-in-law, Francil Franks of Spencer, OK; grandchildren: Howard Donaldson, Earnest, Jr., Terrence (Donna) and Brandon (Nicole) Moore, Tameka Hughley and Jonathan Franks; great-grandchildren: Isiah and Alicia Donaldson, Jacob (Amia) and Braxton Moore, Mykelle and Jonathan Hughley, Addison and Alia Franks, and Leyla Moore; sister-in-law, Ann Franks; brothers-in-law: Johnnie, Anthony and Timothy Franks; honorary children: Pastor Henry (Sonia) Pough, Sr., Matonya Philon and George Rhodes; a host of neices, nephews, other relatives and friends and caregivers: LaRhonda Donaldson, Janice Kennon, Clara Morris and Pamela Harris.

Curlee “Big Poppa” Spencer Jr. was born Jan. 19, 1949 to the late Annie Gertrude Spencer and Curlee Spencer Sr. in Coy.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Curlee Spencer Sr. and Annie Spencer; grandparents, James Spencer and Clara Spencer, and Lillie Blount and Arthur Mitchell; and brother, Henry Spencer Sr.

Curlee, affectionately called “Big Poppa” by loved ones, graduated from Rosa A. Lott, Class of 1966. He attended Alcorn State University, where he played baseball. Curlee worked side-by-side with his father at Barry Steam Plant in Bucks. He worked in the Boise Cascade sawmill in Jackson and later retired from Hosea Weaver and Sons in Mobile.

Curlee enjoyed dancing, playing and coaching baseball and softball, listening to music and spending time with his family and friends. He had a hobby for the love of fast, loud cars and trucks. He was a fan of Auburn’s “War Eagle.”

He leaves to cherish his memories his devoted, loving wife and caregiver for 36 years, Christine Spencer; children, Theresa Michelle Merriweather (Keith Miller) of Mobile, Tammy (Jimmy) Martin and Curlee(Tiffany)Spencer III, both of Jackson, Cassandra Calhoun of Mobile, Temekia ( Mack) McGill, retired chief of police of Montgomery; grandchildren, Lieutenant Melvin Alexander (Annette) Dunn of U.S. Army, Petty Officer 2nd Class Joshua Xavier Dunn of U.S. Navy, Benjamin Gregory Foster, Anesha Carstarphen, Devonair Spencer, Kurteris Johnson, Karrah Spencer, Carlie Calhoun, Averie Calhoun, Taylor McGill, Dylan McGill and JimilyaMartin; great-grandchildren, Judah Alexander Dunn, Josiah Amir Dunn and Jael Anorrah Dunn; god-children, Toni Shamaya Rocker and Kaylota Kid; god-grandson, Waylon Portis; siblings, Anita (Stanley) Harvey of Picayune, Miss., and Horace (Judy) Spencer of Slidell, La.; uncles, Earnest Spencer of Mt. Vernon, Cleo Spencer of Pensacola, Fla., and Jim Spencer of Vredenburgh; sisters-in-law, Mary Autry and Patricia Carolyn Spencer, both of Mobile; brothers-in-law, Richard ( Mamie) Edmond and John (Katherine) Edmond II, both of Mobile, and Mike Hunt of Jackson; with many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

Public viewing will be Friday, Jan. 2, from 1 until 4 p.m., at Jackson Memorial Funeral Home, 203 East Ross St., Jackson. The funeral service will be Saturday, Jan. 3, with viewing from 11 a.m. until the 12-noon funeral hour at New St. Matthew Baptist Church in the Choctaw Bluff community. Interment will follow in Good Hope Cemetery in Gainestown.

John Henry Roper, known as “Bad Boy”, peacefully journeyed from his earthly home to his eternal resting place on December 22, 2025 at USA Health University Hospital Mobile, AL. Born June 28, 1952 to the late West and Dennie Nell Pugh Roper.

Early in life he united with Pine Chapel Baptist Church No. 2 where he remained a member until his passing. John loved fishing and hunting.

Preceded in death, his parents, one son, Jason DeWayne Roper, three brothers, John Wesley Roper, Sr., Levan Roper, Sr., and Joseph Roper; three sisters, Della Creighton, Roberta Creighton, and Reba Williams.

John leaves to cherish his memories to his devoted daughters, JoAnn Pugh and Melissa (Frederick) Edwards, Kameron Roper, a son Sherman ( Lo’Real) Roper; six grandchildren and one great grandchild. A host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Public viewing will be held on Friday, December 26, 2025 from 1:00-4:00 at the Jackson Memorial Funeral Home. The service will be held Saturday, December 27, 2025, at Pine Chapel Baptist Church No. 2 of Toddtown, with a viewing at 1:30- until the 2:30 funeral hour. Ella Louise West Brown, a lifelong resident of Walker Springs, Alabama was born September 8, 1929 to Reverend James Alexander and Sallie Gladys West. She made her earthly transition on Tuesday, December 16, 2025 while at Jackson Medical Center.

Ella Louise accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior and joined and worshiped at the Saint Luke Baptist Church her entire life. She was the oldest member! Her favorite hymns were… “Amazing Grace and What Friend We Have in Jesus.”

She was preceded in death by her parents, Reverend James Alexander and Sallie Gladys West; her son, Bobby Ray Brown; grandson, Adam James Leggett; brothers: Alexander “Jack” West, Elbert Harold West, Alfred “Pete” West and Robert West; sisters: Martha West Davis, Mary West Lumbers and Geraldine West; and a sister-in-law, Anna Jean Perine West.

Sister Dorothy Lee Jackson Bush, was born March 25, 1950, the second child born to the union of Mr. George Jackson Sr. and Mrs. Ora B. Jackson in Mount Vernon, AL. She transitioned to her heavenly home Wednesday, December 18, 2025 surrounded by her family in Mount Vernon.

Dorothy accepted Christ at an early age uniting with Mount Olive Primitive Baptist Church in Mount Vernon, AL under the leadership of the Rev. Bats. Presently, her membership was with Little Sunflower No. 3 Baptist Church in Sunflower, AL under the leadership of her husband, Pastor Lee E. Bush, Jr.

Dorothy was educated in the Mobile County Public School System, graduating from Rosa A. Lott High School in the Class of 1968 in Citronelle, AL. “Dot” as she is affectionately known, was a retiree of Gulf Lumber Company over a span of 35 years of dedicated service.

She was a former member of the City of Mobile Bowling League, and enjoyed fishing and going to church.

Dorothy was united in Holy Matrimony to Lee E. Bush, Jr. on September 20, 1986.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Jackson, Sr.; and her sister, Mrs. Georgia Hayes.

Dorothy leaves to cherish her legacy and her precious memories to cherish her loving and devoted husband, Pastor Lee E. Bush, Jr. of Mount Vernon, AL; devoted daughter, LaLisa Williams of Mobile, AL; two sons: Terris Wayne Johnson of Mount Vernon, AL and LaBarron (Tiffany) Johnson of Mobile, AL; four bonus children: MSgt. Brady Earl Kiel, lovingly known to all as “Sister Girl” was the cherished middle child of three, born on Sunday, July 14, 1946, in Clarke County, Alabama. On December 6, 2025, she peacefully transitioned into eternal rest at Grove Hill Memorial Hospital in Grove Hill, Alabama, leaving behind a legacy of love, faith, and genuine kindness that will forever live in the hearts of those who knew her.

At an early age, Brady accepted Christ at Rockbar Baptist Church in West Bend, Alabama. Her faith was not just a part of her life—it was the foundation of who she was. Wherever life carried her, she remained anchored in her walk with the Lord. While living in Detroit, Michigan, she faithfully served as a devoted member of Christland Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. C. L. Branch. Upon returning home, she joyfully resumed her membership at Rockbar Baptist Church, where she served faithfully under the leadership of Rev. Amos Hill until her passing.

Brady received her early education at Cunningham Elementary School and Clarke County Training School in Coffeeville, Alabama. A firm believer in lifelong learning, she continued her education at Alabama State University in Montgomery, Alabama, where she diligently pursued her academic and professional goals.

For 30 years, Brady dedicated herself to faithful service with the American Red Cross Association, serving as a Records Management Supervisor. She faithfully served her community. She was a member of the Jackson Area Rotary Club, Coffeeville One Community, Coffeeville Community Board, The Department of Human Resources Board and past board member of the Southwest Alabama Community Action Agency Headstart Representative for the Coffeeville Community. Her work reflected her heart—she was deeply committed to helping others and ensuring that people were cared for during times of crisis. Her compassion, diligence, and integrity guided her throughout her career until her well-earned retirement.

Brady was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Wylie Dewberry and Harriet Sellers Dewberry; her maternal grandparents, George and Connie Thomas; her parents, George and Willie Mae Dewberry; her beloved husband, Arthur Kiel Jr.; her sister, Dorothy Gilmore; and her brother-in-law, Travis Kiel.

She leaves to cherish her precious memories with her loving children: Eric Kiel of Detroit, Michigan, and Lakia (Willie) Kiel-Chapman of Coffeeville, Alabama; one brother, Eugene Dewberry of Conyers, Georgia; and one cherished grandchild, Crane Arthur. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law: Sherman (Gerald) Goodman, Linda (Arthur) Todd, and Wilma Kiel; and her brothers-in-law: John (Marion) Kiel and Richard Earl (Yolanda) Kiel. She also leaves a very special cousin and brother, Milton Thomas; her childhood best friend, Emmie Jean Calhoun; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

Dorothy Mae Williams, a native of Gainestown, AL was born September 12, 1954 to the parentage of the late Austin Williams and late Sarah Williams. On Friday, December 5, 2025 she answered the Master’s Call.

Duke attended the Antioch African Methodist Church in Gainstown, AL.

Duke enjoyed life and loved spending time with her family. She loved fishing, cooking and dancing.

In addition to her parents, Duke was preceded in death by her special friend, Ray Jemison; two brothers: Tommie Lee Williams and Austin Williams, Jr.; two sisters: Sadie Williams and Claudine Williams; two brothers-in-law: Joe Allen Fox and Earnest Jemison.
