Mary Louise Powell was born December 2, 1936, to the late Mose and Savannah Pogue. Mary was affectionately known as “Moot”. She completed her earthly journey on Tuesday, May 19, 2026 at Jackson Healthcare Facility in Jackson, AL.

She was a native of the Cortelyou Community of Wagarville, AL. She was united in marriage to the late Mack Powell, and were blessed with five children.

To know Mary was to know love. She was a woman whose kindness and warmth touched everyone blessed to know her. Mary was truly one of the most kindhearted people you could ever meet. She gave from the heart without hesitation, always putting others before herself and making everyone feel welcomed, loved, and cared for.

Her greatest joy in life was her family. She deeply loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and there was nothing she wouldn’t do for them. Mary had a special way of keeping up with everyone and everything — she always seemed to have the “local news” before it ever made the newspaper. Her conversations, laughter, and stories filled every room with comfort and joy.

Mary also enjoyed the simple pleasures that made life sweet. She loved a good plate of collard greens and cornbread, pig feet, hog head cheese, and sweet tea with lemon flavor close by. She especially loved gospel music, which brought peace to her heart and joy to her spirit.

Mary’s love, generosity, and unforgettable presence will forever live on in the hearts of her family, friends, and all who knew her.

She leaves behind a legacy of compassion, strength, laughter, and unconditional love that will never be forgotten.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Mose and Savannah Pogue; her husband, Mack Powell; siblings: Betty Reed, Doris Robinson, Mose Pogue, Jr., and Julia Pogue.

Mary leaves to cherish her precious memories, her five children: Donnie (Hubertha) Powell of Wagarville, AL, Daryl (Thelma) Powell of McIntosh, AL, Marilyn Powell of Wagarville, AL, Bettie (Ken) Martinear of DeRidder, LA, and Christy (John) Perine of Cartersville, GA; nine grandchildren: Sharae Powell, Beverly Powell, Travis Powell, Jarus Powell, Coretta “Shay” Powell, Shanease “Nease” Powell, RJ Gladney, Jr., Kennedi Martinear, and Jaylen Powell; five great-grands: Jonte’ Peoples, Kayden Franks, Harmonie Powell, Layton Powell, and Landyn McReynolds; two sisters: Thelma Donald, and Henrietta Howell; two brothers: Richard (Birdie) Pogue, and Frankie Pogue; four sisters-in-law: Rosetta Powell, Effie (Willie) Roberts, Jeanette Powell, and Gwen Powell; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Mary Frances Jackson Sims, better known to family and friends as “Mae Frances,” was a resident of the Sunflower Community, was born September 20, 1936 to the late Travis and Frances Jackson in Rockville, AL. She exchanged her life for eternal joy on Tuesday, May 19, 2026 while at University of South Alabama Medical Center.

Mary joined Little Sunflower Baptist Church #3 at an early age, where she served faithfully and held the office of Church Secretary for many years.

Mary was employed with Vanity Fair. After serving over forty years of dedicated service she retired.

Mary was a very outspoken person who loved her children and family, especially her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Her most loved sport was fishing and baseball, which she loved to do. Her favorite Major League Baseball team was the “Atlanta Braves”. She loved them all dearly, but could watch the Braves daily and fish daily.

Preceding her in death was her husband, Ben Sims; her parents, Travis and Frances Jackson; daughter, Mary J. Kelly; granddaughter, Tamisha Johnson; brother, Roosevelt Jackson; and sister, Willie Mae Jackson.

Remaining to cherish her fond memories are her children: Betty Sims, Sharon (Cliff) Brown, Regina (Al) Portis and Angela Sims all of Sunflower, AL, Ben (Angela) Sims Jr. of Montgomery, AL, David (Sheena) Sims of Thomasville, AL and Dexter Sims of Sunflower, AL; brother, Ossie Jackson of Washington, DC; sister-in-law, Ella Mae Sims; 28 grandchildren, 60 great-grandchildren, 43 great-great-grandchildren; godson, Brayden Brown; bonus daughter, Tee Harris; with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends; including special friends: Vera Chapman, Roxey James, Carolyn Scott, Mary Jo Starling, and Liz Burrell; special cousin, Annie Pearl Brown; and bonus sons: David Turner, Andy Parnell and Bruce Parnell; and two neighborhood sons: Marvin Lewis Davidson, Sr. and Frank Webb, Jr.

Percy Lee Dickinson affectionally know as "Tee" was born on October 21, 1955, in Grove Hill, Alabama to the late Jimmie and Ethel Mae Glen Dickinson.

He attended Clarke County High School and graduated in 1975. He was a member of Orange Hill Missionary Baptist Church until moved to Detroit,MI, where he later united with New Westside Missionary Baptist Church untit his death on May 9, 2026.

He was preceded in death by his parents, the late Jimmie and Ethel Mae Glen Dickinson, sister, Mary Dickinson Kugeji , brothers, George, Charles, Jimmy Lee, John, and Clayton Dickinson.

He leaves to cherish his memories two sisters, one devoted Lula (Lorenzo) Hayes of Detriot, MI. and Worthy Bowen of Grove Hill, Alabama; brother, Melvin Dickinson of Grove Hill, Alabama. Brother -in-law, Ayo Kufeji of Detriot,MI.; sister-in- law, Carolyn Dickinson. A host of nieces, two devoted, Grace (Steve) Riley and Yolanda Dickinson both of Detroit,MI., nephews, great nieces, great nephews and other relatives and friends.

Randy Jevon Bumpers, 50, of Jackson, Alabama, affectionately known as “Bump” peacefully transitioned from this life on May 18, 2026, at Ascension Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola, Florida. Randy gave his life to Christ at an early age and was a devoted member of Berry’s Chapel AME Zion Church.

During his youth, Randy was recognized for his athletic ability and love of sports. He attended Coffeeville High School, where he proudly played for the Coffeeville High School football and basketball teams. His competitive nature and outgoing personality made a lasting impression on classmates, friends, and all who knew him. Following high school, he attended Alabama State University in Montgomery, Alabama, and later served in the United States Air Force.

Randy was a passionate fan of Auburn Tigers football and rarely missed an opportunity to cheer on his beloved team. Win or lose, his Auburn pride remained strong and was something family and friends always associated with him.
Randy was most proud of his children and grandchildren, who brought immense joy and meaning to his life. He cherished every opportunity to spend time with family, share stories, laugh, and encourage those he loved.

He leaves to cherish his precious memories: his loving parents, Charles “Randal” Bumpers and Edith Bumpers; his children, Randy J. (Sofia) Bumpers II, Chasity Bumpers, Javonte Bradley, and Holly Wade; his grandchildren, Soriya Bumpers and Mikyah Johnson; his devoted companion, Melanie Simmons; along with a host of other relatives, friends, loved ones, and community members who will forever cherish his memory.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, R.J. and Delia Mae Bumpers, and Archie and Virgie Stewart.

Duane Woolwine of Jackson, AL, native of Elkhart, IN, passed away on May 11, 2026. Duane was born on January 21, 1953 in Bluefield, WV.

He was the first born of Paul and Ailene Woolwine. He graduated from Elkhart High School in Elkhart, IN and went on to work in the production and maintenance field throughout his life. Duane was known for his quietness and gentleness. He
loved hunting, fishing, and anything to do with the outdoors.

He is survived by his wife, Aretha (Foxx) Woolwine, two sons Duane (McKenzie) Woolwine Jr of Elkhart, IN, and William Ivory of Jackson, AL, three daughters, Heather (Timothy) Chupp, Courtney Dolittle and Vanessa Shultz all of Elkhart, IN, two step-daughters, Heather Lance of Elkhart, IN and Ashley Ivory of Jackson, AL, two sisters, Brenda (Doug) McDaniel and Diane Hively, both of Elkhart and a host of grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Bonnie Wogoman.

Elizabeth Ann Jackson Fuller, born July 1, 1962 to Betty Jean Phillip Jackson and Titus Jackson Sr.

She was preceded in death by her son, Kevin Fuller; mother, Betty Jean Phillip Jackson; Sister, Lisa Jackson; and brother, Walter Jackson.

Elizabeth departed this life May 6, 2026 at Mobile Infirmary Hospital.

She leaves to cherish her memories her loving father, Titus Jackson Sr.; Sisters, Pamela (David) Sims and Jacklyn (Charlie) Wiggins, both of Jackson, Carol (Randolph) Wiggins and Veronica Jackson, both of Mobile; brothers, Titus (Courtney) Jackson and Michael (Zipporah) Jackson, both of Jackson, and Darryl Ezell of California; with a host of nieces and nephews; goddaughter, Sheree Jackson; and devoted friend, Albert Jackson and Ada Young.

Larry Gene Jackson was born on July 20, 1958, to the late Dorothy Mae Jackson and the late Robert Lee Blanks. On Saturday, May 2, 2026, Larry peacefully departed this life, leaving behind a legacy of love, strength, devotion, and cherished memories that will last forever.

Larry was a proud graduate of the Jackson High School Class of 1977. After proudly serving his country as a Field Medic in the military, Larry devoted many years to working as a Correctional Officer at Atmore prison facilities, including Fountain, Holman, and J.L. Davis. Larry was known as a hardworking man who took pride in providing for and protecting his family.

A man of faith, Larry was a devoted member of Good Hope A.M.E. Church in Gainestown, Alabama. After the church closed, his membership was transferred to Antioch A.M.E. Church in Gainestown, Alabama where he continued his walk of faith.

Larry found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He loved hunting, fishing, gardening, and working on cars, but nothing brought him greater happiness than spending time with his family. His greatest love was his wife, Emily Jackson, whom he adored deeply for 28 beautiful years. Together they built a life filled with love, laughter, loyalty, and unwavering commitment. Larry treasured every moment spent with Emily and always made sure his family knew they were the center of his world.

Larry especially cherished the time he spent with his grandchildren, Morgan and Meela, creating memories that they will hold close forever. He also shared a special bond with his devoted brother, Derrick Jackson.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Lathaniel Washington; his sister, Frankie Mae Jackson; and his brother, Robert Blanks.

Willie James Thornton Bumpers was born June 10, 1958 to the late Ella Bumpers and Johnny Thornton. He departed this earthly life, Wednesday, April 29, 2026.

Bill grew up in Coffeeville, AL and united with the Union Baptist Church No. 1 where he remained a member.

Bill attended Coffeeville High School where he was a graduate of the Class of 1978 where he played sports football was his favorite. After high he went into the work force. Bill was employed with Powell Logging, where he worked for thirty-five years.

Bill met and married the love of his life, Tammy Agee Thornton Bumpers on July 2, 1992. They were blessed to be share thirty-five years. Bill had a great love for kids, he enjoyed hunting, football and basketball.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ella Bumpers and Johnny Thornton; sisters: Lonnie Mae (OJ) Johnson and Gracie Ann Chapman; brother, Johnny Bumpers; and one granddaughter, Khadejah Wiggins.

Warren Boykin was born September 18, 1950 to the union of Mattie and Roosevelt Boykin, Sr. He departed this life

Warren “Curtis” Boykin attended Prestwick High School where he enjoyed playing sports such as Track and Field anything that would challenge him to running. After school he began to work driving tucks and loved sports cars and beautiful women.

To know Curtis was to love him because he had such a great light about him. Everyone enjoyed the jokes and sounds Curtis would make when mocking an actors or even machinery: like a chainsaw. Driving trucks was also a passion of his. While driving he would shift the gears in a truck so good you would think the truck was talking.

During his free time, he enjoyed family and friends, gatherings, and good herbal essence. “If you know what I mean.” Despite later in life Curtis having a terrible accident on a job site and becoming paralyzed and non-vocal he always smiled and shined bright with personality. He had a few choice words like “BOIII” and “I'll tear ya ____ up!”

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mattie and Roosevelt Boykin, Sr.; wife, Debbie Taylor Boykins; his siblings: Chrispher Boykin, Wille Frances Boykin, and Deloris Darrington.

Curtis leaves to cherish his memories, his childen: Tracy Taylor and Warren Curtis Boykin, Jr.; his siblings: Roosevelt Boykin and Scottie Boykin, Sr.;and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Janice Marie Jackson was born April 8, 1972 to the union of Mary and the late Rev. Willie Clay Jackson. She departed this earthly life Friday, May 1, 2026 at the age of 54.

Janice was baptized and united with the Pine Chapel #1 Baptist Church, Grove Hill, AL.

Janice was a graduate of the Clarke County High School Class of 1990, where she was not only a member but excelled in basketball, track and field, throwing the shot put and discus, receiving several award and recognitions. One of most proudest moment during school was being named Most Athletic, receiving State Championship Titles in Basketball and Track & Field for consecutive years.

Janice was the “Life of the Party” at all the family gathering, where she always had a joke or two to keep everyone laughing, trying to make sure a good time was had regardless of what event it was. Janice loved dancing and playing a good game of Spades. Anyone that knew Janice, knew that her family was her most prized procession. She was loved dearly by her village.
