Dear Dispatcher,

Did you know that over half of your calls may be life-saving? According to a recent IAED survey, 59% of respondents agreed their call to 911 resulted in saving a life.

Every time you answer the phone, you are making a difference—whether it’s providing potentially life-saving instructions, sending the right help, or simply offering reassurance in a moment of crisis.

Thank you for being the first, first responder.

Happy National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week!

I want to take a moment to brag on my incredible staff. As an RMCC (Regional Medical Communications Center), we wear many hats. First, we handle day-to-day operations, managing medical 911 calls and dispatching EMS for Madison, Chester, Benton, Dyer and McNairy counties in West Tennessee, But our role doesn't stop there. When disasters strike—whether it’s a natural disaster or a large-scale Mass Casualty Incident (MCI)—we are the ones who coordinate medical assets, including EMS and air medical, across 17 counties in West Tennessee, from the Tennessee River to the Memphis Delta.

The past five days have been particularly challenging. My team has worked long hours, been called back in to work , and managed the high stress of coordinating operations while navigating severe road closures—including I-40 last night—due to extensive damage and flooding. Despite these obstacles, my folks have shown nothing short of remarkable perseverance. Even when some of them have been personally affected by the tornadoes, they have still shown up to work without hesitation, staying dedicated to their responsibilities and the communities they serve.

Their resilience and unwavering commitment to their job, their team, and the people they serve truly inspires me. I couldn’t be prouder of the work they do, especially during times like this. Thank you to each and every one of them for their continued hard work and dedication. ~Christy

Today, we want to take a moment to recognize the incredible team at Medical Center EMS for their unwavering commitment to serving our community during this challenging winter weather.

Despite freezing temperatures, icy roads, and deteriorating conditions across West Tennessee, our crews, dispatchers, and leadership rose to the occasion. Crew members braved the elements to respond to calls for help, ensuring every patient received the care they needed.

Extra staff came in to assist, allowing us to accommodate multiple out-of-town transfers, even under treacherous road conditions. One dedicated crew transported a patient to Alabama on what is typically a 14-hour round trip—this journey turned into over 24 hours due to hazardous weather, but they saw it through. Another crew member went above and beyond, shoveling our parking lot to keep the station accessible and safe for everyone.

To keep spirits high, we made sure to provide lunch for all the crews working tirelessly throughout the day.

Through it all, our team exemplified professionalism, dedication, and a steadfast commitment to the people we serve. This is what it means to truly care for a community. We are proud to stand together and continue providing exceptional care, no matter the circumstances.

Thank you to every member of the Medical Center EMS team for your hard work and resilience. You are the heart of this organization, and our community is stronger because of you.

The City of Jackson is recruiting volunteers to be part of the 4 Minute Community AED program. This program places Avive Connect AEDs into the hands of a network of CPR-trained citizen volunteers who are then able to be alerted by 911 through their AED and dispatched to a nearby emergency via map. All with the goal of improving sudden cardiac arrest outcomes! Interested in learning more about the program or volunteer network? Visit: https://avive.life/jackson/
