Do you feel like you've tried everything for your scoliosis?!
Have you worked on your fascia? Have practitioners that you sought out for scoliosis treatment, mentioned it to you?
What even is fascia? Fascia is a continuous web of connective tissue that wraps around muscles, bones, nerves, and organs. It provides structure, support, and transmits mechanical tension throughout the body.
▶Asymmetrical Patterns of Tension
In scoliosis, the spine curves abnormally, and fascia adapts to this by tightening unevenly around muscles and structures.
These myofascial imbalances can perpetuate or worsen the spinal curve, creating a feedback loop: the more the curve progresses, the more the fascia tightens asymmetrically.
▶Restriction of Movement
Fascial tightness can limit spinal mobility, especially in rotation or side-bending.
Restricted fascia can pull the spine further out of alignment, exacerbating the scoliotic pattern.
▶Compensation and Pain
Fascia compensates for spinal imbalance by shifting tension to other areas—leading to muscle fatigue, postural compensation, and chronic pain, especially in the lower back, neck, or hips.
▶Impact on Muscular Function
Since fascia envelopes and connects muscles, any fascial dysfunction can disrupt muscle activation and strength, contributing to muscular imbalances that support the scoliotic curve.
✨Schroth Method & Fascial Focus✨
Techniques like the Schroth Method integrate fascial elongation and derotation with breathing and posture correction.
Breathwork into the diaphragm and the concave side work to length the fascia holding you in place.
In my women's coaching program, Spinal Rewind, we learn to mobilize fascia with small balls and foam rollers, scoliosis specific elongation, and even sometimes hanging. The key to addressing fascia is to be specific and to slowly allow the fascia to release and lengthen. (Creep is the term I learned in school!)
No fascia blasting over here! Only slow, gentle, prolonged releases.
