Most people think detoxing means a juice cleanse for a few days. In my 30 years of functional medicine, I can tell you that is not how the body actually works.

Your liver runs two separate detox pathways, Phase I and Phase II, and they have to work together. If Phase I fires without Phase II being ready, you actually create more reactive, more harmful compounds in the process. That is not a cleanse. That is a burden.

Real detoxification starts with the gut. Before your liver can do its job, the intestinal lining has to be intact. When it is not, toxins that should be on their way out simply get reabsorbed. This is the part most protocols miss entirely.

I put together a free Detoxification Protocol guide that walks through exactly how I approach this with my patients, including the three pillars I use, the specific nutrients that support each phase, and the supplements I recommend most often.

You can download it here>>https://menoclinic.com/wp-content/uploads/Detoxification.pdf

If you are looking for a place to start, L-Glutamine is the first thing I reach for. It is the primary fuel source for the cells lining your gut wall, and repairing that lining is step one in any serious detox program.

If I had to choose one supplement that works quietly behind the scenes to protect nearly every system in your body, N-Acetyl Cysteine would be near the top of my list.

Most people have never heard of it. But inside your cells, it is doing some of the most important work imaginable.

NAC is a precursor to glutathione, your body's master antioxidant and your liver's most essential detoxification tool. Think of glutathione as your cellular cleanup crew. It binds to toxins, neutralizes free radicals, and escorts harmful compounds out through your liver and kidneys. Without enough of it, that cleanup crew goes understaffed and the burden accumulates.

The reason I recommend NAC rather than a glutathione supplement is simple. Oral glutathione is notoriously difficult for the body to absorb. NAC bypasses that problem entirely by giving your cells the raw material to produce glutathione right where it is needed most.

I see patients every week dealing with fatigue, brain fog, and sluggish detoxification, and in many cases the underlying thread is glutathione depletion. Stress, aging, environmental exposures, and even intense exercise all draw down your reserves over time.

If you are curious whether NAC belongs in your daily routine, I am happy to talk it through.

To Your Health and Happiness,

Dr. Mark

One of the most common things patients tell me this time of year is that they feel like they are dragging. Not sick exactly, just not right. Energy is lower than it should be, digestion is sluggish, skin is not cooperating, and no matter how much they rest, they wake up feeling like they never quite recovered. Most people chalk it up to the end of a long winter, and they are not entirely wrong. But what is actually happening in many of these cases is that the body's detoxification system has been running on empty for months.

Your liver works around the clock to neutralize and eliminate what your body has been exposed to, from environmental toxins and heavy metals to the byproducts of stress hormones and processed food. It does this through a two-phase process that requires specific nutrients at each step. When those nutrients are in short supply, which they often are after a winter of heavier eating, less movement, and less sunlight, the system gets backed up. Toxins that should be leaving the body recirculate instead, and that is when people start feeling the way so many of my patients describe this time of year.

That is exactly why I wrote this article: Spring Cleaning: "For Your Body." It walks through how your liver actually processes and eliminates toxins, why both phases of that process have to work together, and the three pillars I use with my own patients to support a real, effective cleanse. Not a juice fast or a crash program, but a practical approach grounded in how detoxification actually works physiologically. If what I described above sounds familiar to you, I think it will answer a lot of questions you may not have even known to ask.

A quick note for those of you who have been using NeuroMag.
We have renamed it. It is now called Mag Threonate Complete. Same formula, same quality, same results.

The name changed. Nothing else did.

I wanted to take a moment to explain why this form of magnesium is worth understanding, because not all magnesium is the same and the differences actually matter clinically.

Most magnesium supplements are absorbed in the gut and distributed through soft tissue. That is useful for things like muscle relaxation, sleep, and stress. But magnesium L-threonate is one of the only forms shown in research to cross the blood-brain barrier and raise magnesium levels inside the brain itself.

Why does that matter? Your brain runs on synaptic connections. Magnesium plays a direct role in how well those synapses form and communicate. Low brain magnesium is associated with cognitive decline, mood disruption, poor sleep quality, and heightened stress reactivity. Most standard magnesium supplements simply do not reach the brain in meaningful amounts.

Mag Threonate Complete combines magnesium L-threonate as Magtein, which is the patented and researched form, with di-magnesium malate and magnesium lysinate glycinate chelate. The reason I chose this combination is that each form has a different absorption pathway and a different tissue target. The threonate supports the brain and nervous system. The malate and glycinate chelate support overall magnesium repletion throughout the body. You get both in one formula.

If you have been using NeuroMag, keep going. You will see the new name on your next order and nothing will feel different because nothing is different.

And if you have never considered whether your magnesium is actually reaching your brain, that is a worth thinking about.

One complaint I hear over and over in my clinic is fatigue. Not occasional tiredness. The kind that sleep does not fix.

Most people assume this means they need more rest or less stress. Those things matter, but they are rarely the root cause.

What I am actually looking at is the mitochondria.

Your mitochondria are the power plants inside every cell. Their job is to convert the food you eat and the oxygen you breathe into ATP, which is the fuel your body runs on. When mitochondrial function declines, everything suffers. Energy drops. Brain fog sets in. Recovery slows down. And no amount of coffee makes up for the deficit.

What damages mitochondria? Age is part of it. But so are chronic stress, nutrient deficiencies, certain medications, environmental toxins, and poor sleep. In other words, the modern lifestyle is working against them every single day.

The good news is that mitochondrial function is not fixed. It responds to the right inputs. B vitamins, CoQ10, and NAD+ are among the most well-researched nutrients for supporting the energy production pathway. Getting these from food alone is increasingly difficult, which is why I assess this in every patient I see with persistent fatigue.

If your energy has not been the same, it is worth asking whether your cells have what they need to do their job.

I get asked about protein almost every day in the clinic. Which one is best. Whether it actually tastes good. Whether it is clean enough for someone with food sensitivities. This week I made it easier to find out for yourself.

We carry three proteins that I genuinely enjoy and recommend daily: PaleoProtein Chocolate, PaleoProtein Vanilla, and MenoMeal Vanilla. All three are dairy-free and gluten-free, free of fillers and artificial ingredients, and clean enough for even our most sensitive patients.

They also make one of the best meal replacements I have found. Blend with frozen fruit, coconut milk, or peanut butter and you have a breakfast that tastes like a treat and carries you comfortably through to lunch.

And if you really want to take your smoothie to the next level, add a scoop of our Triple Collagen. It is completely flavorless so it disappears right into the blend. What it adds is significant though. Each serving delivers 12.5 grams of collagen peptides to support your joints, bones, skin, and muscle recovery. It is one of the simplest upgrades you can make to your daily routine.

All proteins and Triple Collagen are 25% off through April 12. Use code PROTEIN25 at checkout. And if you need a little inspiration, we are also offering a free smoothie recipe guide with your order.

Most people come to us after years of being told their labs look fine. They do not feel fine.

That distinction matters more than most people realize. Standard labs will tell you whether something is wrong enough to treat.

What they rarely tell you is why you feel exhausted, why your weight will not budge, why your hormones feel off, or why your energy has quietly declined over the past few years.

That is exactly what our Longevity Panel was built to address.
In a single draw, we measure 60+ markers across the systems that matter most for long-term health and vitality: hormones, thyroid, cardiovascular risk, metabolic function, nutrient status, immune health, and biological aging. This is the kind of testing that gives you real answers, not just a clean bill of health.

For a limited time, we are offering this panel at a significant discount from its standard retail value.

If you have been looking for real answers about your health and you live near Jackson Hole, this is one of the most comprehensive starting points we offer.

Call us at (307) 732-1039 or send a message through the Patient Portal to schedule your draw.
