The need for qualified mental health professionals has never been greater. Across the country, Marriage and Family Therapists (MFTs) are helping individuals, couples, and families strengthen their relationships and communities.

The American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT) believes that HBCUs are essential partners in expanding access to culturally responsive care and in shaping the next generation of therapists who reflect the diversity and strengths of the communities they serve.

Just like generational wealth, toxic relational patterns pass down from grandparents, to parents, to children, to friends, to significant others...

They wreak atomic havoc on families, communities, and ultimately nations.

Becoming a securely attached individual is painful and sometimes lonely, but is necessary for individual health and healing, which directly disrupts the brokenness that created the insecure attachment at the core.

Insight and self-awareness means you see through people’s bull 💩 with empathy, grace, and understanding, yet with ironclad boundaries because you refuse to allow your life to remain chaotic, unstable, and predictably dysfunctional…the same trauma you learned to survive in.

It’s time to heal and start thriving.

I was blessed to celebrate the conclusion of my doctoral journey on the island of Oʻahu in Waikīkī Honolulu, Hawaii!! 🌺

I’m grateful for my tribe of people who made this trip possible and who have encouraged and supported me every step of the way. I love you. ♥️

I’ve recently become more aware of my attachment wounds and have been intentional on healing and resolving my trauma and encourage everyone to do the same. Sometimes we don’t realize how impactful our unresolved issues are and how they impact every aspect of our lives and relationships.

Maya Angelou’s quote about believing people when they show you who they are echoes in my head often, and this season of my life has been like the flight of a hummingbird. It may look smooth, effective, and carefree on the outside, but a hummingbird’s wings can flap 50-80 times a second! The daily exhaustion and consistent struggles may not be recognized or validated by others; I’ve learned to appreciate external support and use discernment, but I do not seek or rely on validation from people.

Hawaii was my moment to pause, reflect, and celebrate the work I’ve done.

Mahalo! 🤙🏽

Today is Fentanyl Awareness Day, and it’s important to recognize how substance use and violence can intersect.

Fentanyl is often involved in situations where power, control, and harm are present. Survivors of domestic and sexual violence may be at increased risk—through coercion, forced use, or substances being used to facilitate assault.

This is why awareness matters. Prevention matters. Support matters.

If you or someone you know needs support, resources are available across Tennessee.

We’re opening the Civic Center at 4:00 today as a safe place for anyone who needs it.

Severe weather is unpredictable. What we can control is being ready and looking out for each other. If you don’t feel safe where you are, come on. No questions asked.

Our team will be there. We’ll have the space open, staffed, and ready.

Please keep an eye on the weather, check on your neighbors, and don’t wait too long to make a decision if you need a safe place.

We have to change the question.

It’s not “Why don’t they leave?”

It’s: What do survivors need to be safe when they do?

This statement from our CEO reflects what we know to be true—domestic violence escalates, and without the right systems in place, it can become deadly.

🌟Start by believing.

When someone shares their experience, your response matters more than you may realize.

Listen without judgment.
Believe without hesitation.
Support without conditions.

For many survivors, being believed is the first step toward healing.
You don’t need to have all the answers—you just need to show up with compassion.

If you or someone you know needs support, help is available.
