As we come up on the end of September, Heartland Hospice would like to thank everyone who has reached out and donated food and/or money for our Annual Food Drive! We have had multiple responses so far and look forward to finishing the Food Drive off strong.

September is National Hunger Action Month, a month set aside to draw attention to those who may be struggling to find stability in their food supply with the intention to step in and try to help alleviate some of the hardship. Heartland Hospice is working this year to raise donations for a local food pantry located at Christ Church of Jackson to distribute to those in need. We encourage anyone who is able and willing to donate non-perishable food items or make a monetary donation to the link provided below.

September is Hunger Action Month, a month set aside to bring hunger to the forefront and attempt to help alleviate some of the hardships on our local community. Although this issue is a difficult struggle for many, and the hurt may seem impossible to ease, each and every action reaches out to an individual in need.
That is why we at Heartland Hospice of Jackson are teaming up with Christ Church of Jackson's Food Pantry, a local church food pantry, to help reach the hungry. We are accepting donations of nonperishable food items (especially anything with an easy-open top) as well as monetary donations.

Hearing just the word "hospice" can often times invoke many deep, and heavy emotions. Unfortunately, it is often thought of as something people would like to avoid talking about. But, here at Heartland Hospice, we understand the hidden benefits of having a team of individuals who want to step in and be there for individuals in their greatest time of need. This does not only mean for the patients themselves, but also for the families, friends, and caregivers around them. We believe "Hospice is for every heart in the room". Whether that is the patient, or their life-long friend who is still at their side helping them on their last journey. We would like to say a special "Thank You" to everyone who has believed in us to take care of their loved ones and friends.

We at Heartland Hospice would like to take a moment to reflect on a beautiful day that was shared with one of our patients, Ken, at one of his favorite fishing spots, Tycoon Lake. After being unable to go out and enjoy the outdoors like he always has, our staff came together to provide an opportunity to make it back to the lake one more time. The chance to see an old, familiar place for a day was a special moment that will be cherished by all who were able to be present. Although the fish might not have been biting that day, nature was on display and made up for it. There were two bald eagles soaring through the sky above, as well as a multitude of dragonflies. It made for a beautiful day to remember! We want to say a special "Thank You" to Care EMS for providing transportation for our gentleman, Kirsten for sharing in this day, as well as our staff who helped organize the day and make the experience as comfortable and enjoyable for Ken as possible. Thank you, Chaplain Jerry, RN-Case Manager Laci, STNAs Amanda and Amber, and Volunteer Coordinator Paul.

Today marks the start of Nurse's Assistant Week. At Heartland Hospice, we want to take the time to point out our staff of amazing STNAs.

Every day, they take excellent care of their patients, ensuring they are not only clean and groomed but also monitoring the small day-to-day changes in their patient's health and abilities. Our STNAs work closely with our RNs to ensure any changes are noticed and relayed to the rest of our team. On top of the physical aspects of their job, they also provide a caring, listening ear and companionship.

Our Nurse Assistants do not have an easy job and are quick to pitch in and offer any help they can. Not only is Heartland Hospice thankful to have them, but so are our patients and their families. Thank you to our STNAs, as well as all Nurse's Assistants.

Heartland Hospice is looking for veterans. Use your military experiences in a new way by serving other veterans in their time of need. Honor those veterans at the end of their life's journey by being there for them and their family.
