From kindergartners to kangaroos!
This week at LVH was full of fun!

Mike and Valerie Toney and Brittany Fast with the Roux Crew came out for their first time to LVH and brought two special guests, kangaroos! ๐Ÿฆ˜ ๐Ÿฆ˜
Our residents enjoyed holding baby Joy and watching Jenny hop around and explore. It was a first for most of us to be that close to kangaroos. Mike and Valerie taught us many fun facts about kangaroos, and they presented our veterans with special doubloons they had made for them.
We are looking forward to having The Roux Crew back! ๐Ÿฆ˜๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿฆ˜๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ

As we approach the anniversary of the February 23, 1945 flag raising on Iwo Jima, the Louisiana Department of Veterans Affairs wants to honor the members of the World War II generation who are still living in Louisiana today.

Weโ€™re asking families, friends, and communities across Louisiana to share a comment or post honoring their World War II Veteran so others can help celebrate them too.

๐Ÿ“ธ What to include in your comment or post:
-A photo of the Veteran
-Their name
-Branch of service
-Rank (if known)
-A favorite memory, story, or reflection

Leave a comment, ๐Ÿท๏ธ Tag us, or use so we can help share their story.

๐ŸŽ–๏ธ Louisiana Veterans Honor Medal
If your World War II Veteran has not yet received the Louisiana Veterans Honor Medal, weโ€™d be honored to help. Information about eligibility and the application process is available by clicking this link https://vetaffairs.la.gov/louisiana-veterans-honor-medal.

This generation answered the call when the world needed them most. Letโ€™s honor them โ€” now, while we still can.

Here's to Mr. Levern Lessard on his 103rd birthday! A true testament to resilience, Mr. Lessard's Navy service to his country started during WWII as a ship's cook. He has been a resident at LVH for 7 years. Today, we were joined by Louisiana Department of Veterans Affairs Dr. Jerome Buller, Larry Williams, Murphy Haydel, Ron Callegari, members of Baker Zachary Memorial Post #4224 & Auxiliary. Thank you to Zachary's Regional Veteran's Park members Vince Giaccone, Barry and Brenda Fisher, and Laura and Will Steen for not only helping us honor Mr. Lessard but also for providing the cake and ice cream. ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐ŸŽ‚๐ŸŽ‰๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ

This morning we had a special visit from 2 of the kindergarten classes from Bains Lower Elementary School in St. Francisville! These kiddos are such a blessing to have around! They were excited to come see โ€œthe soldiersโ€ here at LVH. The boys and girls drew Mardi Gras float pictures for our veterans, they sang and even danced a second line!

Yesterday, our facility celebrated the January birthdays of our veteran residents. The Hospice of Baton Rouge kindly donated cake, which was served with ice cream. Mr. Megyesi, who turned 97 on Tuesday, enjoys staying active with word puzzles, visiting family in Albany, and sharing stories of his Hungarian roots. We extend our best wishes to all January birthday veterans! โค๏ธ๐Ÿค๐Ÿ’™

Today, we had the pleasure of welcoming special guests Kim Holder Ricks and her remarkable horse, Hammer ๐Ÿด! Through their partnership, Kim illustrates the bond between a horse and trainer, drawing powerful parallels with our relationship with God. Just as Hammer trusts Kim implicitly, allowing her to guide him with gentle ease, we too can cultivate unwavering faith in God's plan for us. Our residents thoroughly enjoyed interacting with Kim and Hammer, asking questions and showering Hammer with carrots. We look forward to their return visit, as it was a truly uplifting experience.
