It's not every day we get to celebrate a special lady who turned 90 yesterday, but Catherine's daughter Lisa made it very special by delivering Bundt cakes for all our residents. Everyone loved the cakes and the delightful presentation. It was a fun afternoon.

Let's get creative! We introduced a new medium to our residents called "Crumpled Aluminum Foil Painting". As they lifted the canvas off the aluminum, there were gasps of amazement at the wonderful results. Also, the actual class was great fun, and doing something new keeps the mind active.

You need to meet our 105-year-old resident, Claribel, to get a clear vision of an amazing centenarian. She is beautiful inside and out and led (and continues to lead) a wonderful, rich life. She will tell you she has all her teeth and doesn't take any medicine. She remembers her doctor coming on horseback to her farm to deliver her baby. She has weathered two pandemics and a war. She has much wisdom to offer us. Happy Centenarian Day, Claribel!

Just the thing to finish off a busy week, an "oldies doo-wop" party. Residents and associates wore poodle skirts, rolled up jeans, drank coke floats, danced and sang along to the 50s & 60s hits. One of our dining team members, Eric, gave us an impromptu performance of "My Baby Loves Me" by Elvis. We all had a blast!

Do you remember playing records or vinyls as some used to call them? We had a treat this week. Rodger Holtin, host of "Big Band Sounds" radio program, came with his wife and presented a wonderful program on the history of records. It was very interesting and educational, and playing the records on a record player created a lot of nostalgia.

To kick off National Assisted Living Week, we had a Red, White & Blue Day for 9/11 and presented our veterans with a badge and Certificate of Appreciation. Special thanks to Stephanie and Karrie for pinning our veterans. We ended the week with a morning Mimosa Party.

This week was National Assisted Living Week, and to finish the activities, we held a parade featuring our 'willing' assisted living residents as models. They were greeted by our appreciative audience and cheered enthusiastically. Later, Scott and Rita entertained for an hour while we served banana splits and juice. Associates from Assisted Living were invited to take part in the festivities. It was a wonderful week!

We had wonderful stories from our residents about their grandparents and grandchildren, in fact, any family member. Our get-together was for Grandparents Day, so the focus was on their lives growing up and their relationships with their grandparents. Even the residents who did not bring pictures had stories of their childhood. It was a touching program full of nostalgia.

We had a special unofficial speaker for our Labor Day program. LaQuida, a new resident, gave an amazing talk about her husband playing an important role during the war, working at our Milan Arsenal. She was very interested in relating it to the women who went to work in the factories, etc., while the men were at war. Amber had a "Rosie the Riveter" dress-alike day, which many of the residents had fun with.

We celebrated the end of summer with a Luau for residents and associates. The meal was luau themed with pulled pork, buns, a cheese tray, a vegetable tray and a million dollar pie. YUM!
