"A few years ago, I read a piece about the wisdom of evaluating what types of pain or struggle you endure well. The author highlighted that even the best things in life—travel, falling in love, parenthood—come with challenges. He argued that maybe we should focus a little less on what we want out of life and start asking, “What am I willing to struggle for?” When it comes to long-term romantic relationships, this advice is spot on."

When I first started out in the field, I remember thinking, "I just want to work with individuals in therapy, not couples or families, so why are we called Marriage and Family Therapists? I very quickly found out the answer!

We don't live in a vacuum; so our mental health, hobbies, our joy, etc., are connected to people. How we show up and connect with these folks is dependent upon our relationship with our primary caregivers early in life. That's why attachment style frequently comes up in therapy, because healing attachment wounds leads to a deeper ability to love ourselves and connect with others. Enjoy this attachment style quiz and let us know if you have any questions!

Growing up as a young girl, my intuition and empathy keyed in on issues between my parents. It was scary, so out of survival, I focused on making sure they were okay. I grew into a young woman whose feelings were based on how well my parents were doing, who didn't know how to focus on or process my own feelings, who was a huge people pleaser and couldn't say "no."

Because of my own experience with codependency, and how often I see this issue come up for my clients in therapy, this is a topic I frequently focus on in my work. Codependency impacts most people because anyone whose childhood home had dysfunction is going to be impacted by it; it's just a matter of where you fall on the codependency spectrum. I've attached a link that goes into more detail about this topic, and please let me know if you have any questions! I love discussing this topic and am passionate about helping others find their voice and advocate for their needs.

Hi all!

My name is Raquel, and I am a Christian Therapist with Care Collective; I just wanted to share some encouragement today. I know many struggle with how they can incorporate their faith in therapy or even if they should attend therapy at all. Attached are a few articles that I hope will bring you comfort, peace, and guidance. When it comes to healing, I do not believe that we can separate our spiritual beliefs from out mental health because we are created Body, Soul and Spirit. In order to bring complete healing, I believe all three should work together. Please schedule a free consultation with me today if you are interested in therapy or therapy incorporating your spirituality. Happy Friday!

As a pastor and theologian, I am often asked of how my theology lines up with psychotherapy. That question suggests that counseling cannot be therapeutic

Have you ever been told you're too sensitive? Shy? Maybe you've noticed subtleties in your environment that others around you don't; or you might feel overstimulated by loud noises, bright lights, and big crowds. 20% of the population is Highly Sensitive. This is an evolutionary trait that allows us to stand back and observe before entering into a situation. Translation: we are highly intuitive, empathic, intelligent leaders, and we are natural helpers.

I love teaching my clients about Highly Sensitive People. Most of my clients are HSP's since we tend to over-think, and get anxious or depressed when we have too much going on. In our work together, I can show you how to regulate your body and manage your stress so that being Highly Sensitive actually becomes a super power! It's truly a gift and I love to see my clients learn how to harness it.

Here is the link for a self-test, please let me know if you have any questions!

Hi All, Brittany here! I wanted to share something important to us here at Care Collective, and something we educate our clients on at the beginning of our work together: how to regulate our nervous system. You might be wondering what the nervous system has to do with mental health... Research has shown us that a dysregulated nervous system leads to mental health issues like anxiety and depression, as well as physical health issues such as autoimmune disorders and much more.

When we regulate our bodies, we can begin to see improved mood, a larger bandwidth for daily stressors, an overall feeling of calmness, and more flexibility. Until recently, therapy could often focus on how to "change our irrational thoughts to more realistic ones" and it turns out this wasn't exactly helpful advice. We cannot reframe our thoughts until we have calmed our body. This article lists several different ways we can start to ground our body and begin to feel improvement. I like to teach my clients nervous system regulation techniques coupled with self-compassion work; the two together lead to the healing of trauma and a better relationship with our true self. Hope you enjoy this article as much as we do!

Are you someone with a dysregulated nervous system who suffers from anxiety, burnout, or trauma? If so, you're not alone.
