The following is written by Lili, one of our Client Advocates who also speaks Spanish. This is just one example of how you help change lives when you support Birth Choice and our Postpartum Counseling Fund!!
“Almost a year ago, a Hispanic woman named Sofia* made her first appointment with Birth Choice and came in for a pregnancy test. Sofia was indeed pregnant and was planning on parenting her baby. We discussed lots of things about pregnancy, parenting, the gospel, and healthy relationships. We gave Sofia an ultrasound and sent her on her way. In many ways, Sofia’s appointment was just like any other pregnancy test appointment.
“Sofia let me follow up with her over the next few months, and then her precious baby was born. She brought her baby to Birth Choice for her Celebration of Life appointment along with the father of her baby. As we chatted and I asked how it felt being a mom, she broke into tears. She and the father of the baby told me how sad she had been and how much she was struggling.
"I mentioned my client to Ann, who teaches a postpartum depression class at Birth Choice. After inviting a local, bilingual Christian counselor to come sit in on Sofia’s postpartum class, Ann asked me to come translate for her. So the four of us met together, watched an educational video in Spanish, and discussed postpartum depression. Through tears, Sofia said that she wanted to continue meeting with the counselor. Ann talked with Chris, and they came up with a plan. Sofia would see the counselor for some much needed appointments, and Birth Choice would foot the bill.
“Several weeks later, Sofia came in to shop in our resource room with the 'Mommy Money' she had earned by coming to the postpartum class. Everything about Sofia seemed different. She was smiling and laughing, oohing over her baby, and chatting. I told her she seemed happier, and she said, 'I’m better. The counseling really helped me.' Sofia looked like a new woman. Praise the Lord that Birth Choice had the resources to get Sofia the help she needed to flourish as a new mom. “
