Life Discovery Service, LLC is excited to welcome Mary J. Schwartz, LMSW to our team!

Mary, originally from Perryville, Missouri, earned her Bachelor’s degree in Social Work from Southeast Missouri State University and her Master of Social Work from Saint Louis University. She brings a compassionate, client-centered approach and a strong commitment to supporting individuals and families through challenging life experiences.

Mary has experience working with adolescents and families, including supporting youth impacted by parental substance use, family disruption and reunification, and high-conflict family dynamics such as divorce. She has also worked with individuals who have experienced trauma, including exposure to domestic violence and other forms of abuse, providing a safe and supportive environment for healing and growth.

She is currently accepting new clients via telehealth, serving individuals ages 13 and up.

We are thrilled to have Mary join our practice and look forward to the positive impact she will make in the lives of those we serve.

Seasonal Affective Disorder:

SAD is said to occur due to changes in the body's internal clock, and changes in brain and body's chemicals. Feeling depressed on most days, feelings of hopelessness and worthlessness, reduced energy, concentration and interest in activities especially during winters are the commonly noted symptoms. Light therapy, medications, and psychotherapy are the treatments available for SAD.

Symptoms:
Most cases of SAD begin during late fall or early winter and go away during spring or summer. Some cases may be reported during spring and summer. Winter SAD and summer SAD show similar and different symptoms including;

*Feeling depressed on most of the days, during the season
*Sadness
*Reduced energy
*Loss of concentration and interest in activities
*Feelings of worthlessness or hopelessness
*Trouble sleeping/oversleeping
*Nausea, loss of appetite/craving for fatty or carbohydraterich foods
*Weight loss/weight gain
*Suicidal thoughts

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF TELEHEALTH THERAPY?

Convenience: Telehealth services are available from your home, office, and while traveling. This provides a new level of flexibility to patients who are unable to make it to an in-person visit or simply don’t have the time or means to commute. Patients can use their phone, tablet, or computer to connect with a therapist via video conference.

Accessibility: Telehealth services can make mental health therapy appointments more accessible. Patients may become more likely to seek therapy services if they don’t have to leave their homes. Those who have limited mobility or live in more rural areas where access to mental health clinics is difficult to come by, now have easier, improved access through telehealth. In contrast, they may not have had access to these services otherwise. Telehealth also allows for extended hours, which makes mental healthcare more accessible for those who can’t take time off work for an appointment. Life Discovery Service does offer evening appointments to accommodate a variety of work and school schedules.

Comfort: Patients can remain in their homes throughout their therapy sessions. But, if a patient feels more comfortable speaking to someone from their own couch or office, telehealth makes that possible. Additionally, social stigmas surrounding mental health that patients may face can be avoided.
