“I felt like I had a young mind, but a body that wouldn’t cooperate,” said Amy Proffitt, who endured years of knee injuries, arthritis and surgeries that left her in constant pain and unable to enjoy life as a mom, grandmother, full-time employee and small business owner.
When even simple activities like shopping and walking became unbearable, Amy turned to our orthopedic surgeon Dr. Derek Semaan to explore joint replacement.
With a clear goal in mind, Amy opted for a double knee replacement. “Let’s get both done so I can move forward and start living again,” she told her surgeon. She prepared mentally and physically — setting up her home, leaning on family support and committing to recovery.
Though recovery from bilateral surgery is twice as demanding, Amy stayed focused, incorporating chair yoga, treadmill walks and consistent physical therapy. Just four months later, she’s pain-free and back to the gym, concerts and everyday life.
“I’m beyond grateful to get back to doing the things I love without pain,” she says. With her energy restored, Amy is already planning her next adventures. “Thanks to my new knees, I know I’ll be able to live life to the fullest.”
