Dr. Timothy Schneider attended the Mayo Medical School at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. He completed his Ophthalmology residency at the world-renowned Wilmer Eye Institute of Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, MD. Dr. Schneider commenced his fellowship training with Minnesota Eye Consultants, and Dr. Richard Lindstrom, a pioneer in ophthalmology and specifically, refractive surgery. Upon completion of his training, Dr. Schneider was on staff at the Jacksonville Mayo Clinic, until Dr. Lindstrom invited him back to Minnesota. Missing Florida, and tiring of Minnesota winters, Dr. Schneider happily returned to private practice in Jacksonville. He is the only surgeon in northeast Florida who is board certified to perform LASIK. Dr. Schneider underwent vigorous testing before he was certified by the American Board of Eye Surgeons. He is a sub-specialist in laser vision correction and other corneal surgeries. He researched and trained an extra year to enhance his skills which sets him apart from most general ophthalmologists. He has participated in refractive surgery research and has always been on the cutting edge of new technologies, and lectures nationally and internationally. Dr. Schneider performed LASIK for the first time in 1995 as part of an FDA trial before the excimer laser was approved for use in the general public. He has performed over 10,000 laser vision correction procedures. He trained at Mayo Clinic and Johns Hopkins, both considered to be the absolute best medical institutions in the world, and was invited to direct both institutions’ refractive surgery programs. He was the first Mayo Clinic physician to perform laser visions correction while director of refractive surgery services for the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida. Dr. Schneider has a desire for excellence in both the service he and his staff deliver and the surgery he performs. This excellence continues with a caring, compassionate heart for each of his patients. He is a former chairman of the American Academy of Ophthalmology’s refractive surgery Specialty Information Team.
