We love playtime! At Evner Behavior Services we fully believe in naturalistic teaching. We think children should learn through ways that are engaging and meaningful to them. It’s not just play-doh, it’s skill acquisition!

We are so excited to introduce our new RBT, Lauren, to the Evner team! Get to know her more below:

Hi! My name is Lauren, and I am a Registered Behavioral Technician at Evner Behavior Services! I have been a RBT for one year and have worked with children of all ages. I recently graduated from the University of North Florida with my bachelor's in Early Childhood Education (Go Osprey!) I am currently pursuing my master's at the University of West Florida in Applied Behavior Analysis. My goal is to become a board-certified behavior analyst in the next few years. I am passionate about providing high-quality and individualized services to our clients. My favorite part of being a RBT is watching a kiddo's face light up when they learn something new or communicate effectively for the first time. My fiancé and I are busy raising a sassy labradoodle puppy and exploring Jacksonville in our free time.

We love community outings! When you take your child into the community, the skills you practice are endless. Self-regulation, advocacy, waiting, the list goes on and on! And the best part: you practice them where they’re really going to use them 🍕🏬

Navigating the dating world is hard for everyone, whether or not you have autism. People with autism (autistic people) may have to overcome more hurdles than their neurotypical peers to be successful in pursuing a romantic relationship.

We will provide you with some tips on how to navigate through the singles scene.

Putting yourself out there and trying to meet new people to form relationships can be the hardest part of dating. It’s awkward and uncomfortable for EVERYBODY, but can cause a person with autism (an autistic) an overload of anxiety.

So, how do I/you meet someone? The best place to start looking for potential dates is in your daily life. Really notice the different people you interact with.
- - Do you encounter anyone while riding the bus or in the Uber?
- - Do you come across people at your favorite book store or coffee shop?
When you pursue a relationship with people that you come in contact with in your favorite places, it may mean they have similar interests. But, keep in mind, you may not find a prospective date in your natural environment, that’s okay! There are other ways to meet someone.

You could also look online! Let’s face it, the majority of people meet online these days! Dating sites can be a great way of connecting with other people without having to leave your home. Just keep in mind that virtual can be difficult to interpret, since we don’t have tone of voice, body language, or other clues to help us. This goes both ways (in terms of sending and receiving electronic messages), so take the time to clarify and think through potential interpretations before hitting that send button!

We know meeting one-on-one with someone can be terrifying! A great way to make new connections is participating in social groups or clubs. The people attending these events will have similar interests as you do. Group functions can be less stressful than meeting one-on-one because the focus is on the activity itself rather than making small talk.

With the holidays quickly approaching, here are a few tips to keep in your back pocket!

- Change is hard! Have a break area or back up plan in place just in case things get overwhelming.

- Opening gifts? Be flexible, not everyone want to open gifts or be around the commotion of opening presents.

- Go over the schedule for the day as much as possible.

- Give transition warnings!

- BE PREPARED! Things will be different so be prepared for the best or the worst!

- Remember to enjoy the day! Even though they show it different, your child is having just as much fun as everyone else!
