04/16/23 Update

Nick has been home for 2 weeks and is doing better each day. He had a physical therapy evaluation and is now working to get outpatient PT set up. He only has 3 pages of exercises to do for his leg...Hop to it, Nicholas! πŸ€ͺHis thigh muscle continues to be sore so hopefully, the exercises will help some with that and not make it worse. He has x-rays and an appointment for his neck next week to see how it is healing, and he continues to have some issues with his vision. Hopefully, that subsides as he continues to heal.

Home sweet home: Nick and Somer have officially moved into their new place in Jacksonville and have been there about a week. They are getting settled in and putting everything in its place so it should feel like home very soon!

Prayers for his continued healing, less soreness in his thigh muscles, a great report on his neck, and most of all, that his vision gets back to normal quickly! Thank you so much for your continued love, support and well wishes. They are much appreciated.

A little happiness from Nick makes our day better!! He had to take his brace off for the pic, but it's right back on to take no chances! We all know he's not a fan, but he's been a trooper following the doctor's orders.

04/04 update

As expected, Nick is doing good! His leg is a little sore from overdoing it with his exercises. In true Nick fashion, he was going stir crazy so we had to go for a ride to get out of house. He's waiting for the physical therapy appointments to be set along with getting an appointment for his neck. The follow up for his leg is set so everything is almost in place!

Continued prayers for great progress and complete healing are appreciated.

04/03 UPDATE!!

Nick is going home!! He will do outpatient physical therapy three times a week for now. He is doing so good!! Unfortunately, he will not be able to work for a few months, but hopefully, he will be able to bounce back quicker than they expect. Please give Somer an extra pat on the back. She will be with him all day and night...poor thing...just kidding...sorta! πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‰ And, we all know his mom will be there too, supporting them both.

Thank you is not enough for all that you have done for us. Please continue to pray for a quick and complete recovery!

04/02 update

Nick had a quiet day today but also had a couple exciting things...He got his staples out of his leg!! Woohoo! He also got to enjoy another trip outside with Cindy and Somer. We all know the sunshine does wonders for us mentally. Even though it is Sunday, he did have a short physical therapy session, and he's now using the walker for trips to the bathroom and for showering... another baby step!

Nick, Somer and Cindy would like to say THANK YOU! Thank you for your prayers. Thank you for your support, including financial support...WOW! Thank you for the love you have shown us all. It does our hearts good to know that we have so many caring friends and family, and we would not have made it through the last two weeks without each of you by our side.

Enjoy their picture on their stroll today!

04/01 update

Yesterday marked two weeks since the accident. He has made so much progress this last week. God is truly working miracles for him, one day at a time. Nick is having a better day and is less restless. They moved him to the 3rd floor and out of the step down unit. Yay! Baby steps! Plus, he got a shower so I'm sure he feels a lot better. Best news...He has been able to go for a ride outside a few times to get some fresh air!! We all know being outside will help him so much mentally. No one wants to be stuck inside a hospital room, especially for this long! Rehab is still on hold until Monday.

Continued prayers are appreciated. ❀️

03/31 update

Nick has been restless again today. He is still busy coming up with many plans to break out. There was a hiccup with Brooks Rehab, and he was not approved for it. They are applying for Orange Park Hospital's rehab now. Hopefully, he is approved on Monday.

Visitors: Visitation is still limited. If you wish to visit, message us.

NOTE: If you do see Nick, please remember he has serious injuries that need further treatment and healing. Please encourage him to follow the doctor's orders and do the rehab needed. If you cannot do this, Momma Cindy will more than likely kick you out. πŸ˜‚πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ We all want Nick healthy and issue free once this is behind him, so we need everyone's support. In addition, please be respectful and remember you are in a public hospital with others' sick loved ones.

Continued prayers for complete healing, approval for rehab, and Nick to understand this is a marathon, not a sprint.

Lots of love to you all! ❀️

03/30 update

Nick has been restless today. He is ready to out of the hospital. He's been busy coming up with many plans to break out! πŸ˜‚ We are waiting on Brooks Rehab to approve him so he can move to the next step. Hopefully we know something tomorrow.

Continued prayers for complete healing.

Baby steps!!

03/29 update

Not much change today. He continues to do PT, is eating solid food (according to him, it's not very tasty), and is ready to get out of there... but not quite yet. He will be moving to the step down unit as soon as a bed is available and then rehab at some point.

He took a tumble today because he tried to walk by himself. πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ He's fine other than a battle scar on his nose. Thank goodness! His room is now across from the nurse's station so they can ALL keep an eye on him. πŸ‘€

Visitors are still restricted. You can message us here if you want to visit, and we'll keep you posted.

No specific prayer request other than complete healing! πŸ™β€οΈ

03/28/23 "AM" update

I know it is not still the morning, but we still wanted to update you. Nick had a semi-restless night BUT they took off the leg restraints last night! AND, he is off all sedation and arm restraints as of now. They will see how he progresses and make any adjustments that are needed. Speech therapy will be back today to test his swallowing now that he is not sedated. He is having some memory issues, but that is to be expected based on his brain injury.

We are so excited at the progress and pray that all goes well, so he is permanently off sedation with no restraints needed.

Just continue to pray for the same things...positive steps forward, calmness and less agitation, complete healing of his brain injury and that he passes the swallow test. πŸ₯°β€οΈ

03/27 PM update

Sorry for the late update. They started new meds for agitation last night. He was a lot calmer this evening than he was this morning! The speech therapist didn't get the results they had hoped for so they will check again in a couple days. The PT had better results. They him standing with assistance!! Such a huge accomplishment. He asked for a half cup of water or Sprite this evening. He knew his mom, her full name and told her he loved her. That definitely did her heart good!! His leg is stiff but he was able to bend and straighten it back out. He will be working on that so it won't be so stiff.

Another great day for him. Pray that he continues to respond well to the new agitation medication and remains calm and in bed unless he has help out of it. Pray that his memory stays strong and his brain heals completely. Pray for strength for Cindy and Somer as they continue to support Nick through this journey.

03/27 AM update

Nick's mom was at the hospital for the doctor's rounds this morning to find out more about why he was so sedated and get an update. Apparently, he is trying to set up, pull his arms up, and move his legs to get out of bed! LOL! It makes much more sense to us now.

Good news! He followed commands and responded politely when the doctor asked him questions. He asked for milk, water, and ice cream (he must get that from his Aunt Connie), and he continues a lot of mumbling and talking. He knew his name, his full birthday, AND that it was March 2023!! This makes our hearts so happy! 😍 He even let the nurse do a little more self-hygiene. In addition, the speech therapist will be by at some point to evaluate him for swallowing.

Baby steps! As Somer said, this is a marathon, not a sprint and he's doing wonderfully!

Prayers that he continues to progress, that he becomes less restless and stays in bed! Pray that the swallow test goes well so they can start him on food when he is ready.

Thanks for the prayers. As you can see, they are working and we are so thankful!

03/26 update

Cindy went by this morning and Somer plans to stop by too. Nick is still sedated but is replying to commands. Today, PT sat him up on the bed with their help to steady him so he could look outside for a few minutes. Hopefully, that was great therapy! It was exhausting for him as it was easy to see after they laid him back down. We hope they will be able to lower the sedation throughout the day, but we are unsure if that is possible. He is still not awake as we know it. He sleeps much of the day, and we know that allows his body to continue to heal.

Please continue the prayers for healing, for his arms and hands to follow the commands his brain hears, and that we will get to see those eyes for more than a minute at a time SOON!!

We may not have another update today but will definitely give one again tomorrow. ❀️
