National Philanthropy Day reminds us of the incredible impact philanthropists have in shaping healthier, stronger communities. Their generosity fuels innovation, supports patients, and inspires hope for countless lives. Today, we celebrate those who give selflessly to make a difference.

One of those inspiring individuals is Patric Young — a former UF Health Jacksonville patient, Jacksonville native, and founder of the Patric Young Foundation. After a life-changing spinal cord injury in 2022, Patric turned his journey into a mission of faith, gratitude, and perseverance. At A Night for Heroes, he shared his powerful story, challenging us all to see our own lives through a lens of resilience and kicked off our live appeal. Beyond his words, Patric’s foundation donated a MyoCycle FES Bike, giving patients with neurological conditions the ability to regain strength and mobility.

Thank you, Patric, for your unwavering commitment to helping others and for showing what true philanthropy looks like.

Did you know there are three types of strokes: Ischemic caused by a clot that blocks blood flow to the brain, hemorrhagic caused by a rupture and Transient Ischemic Attack (TIS) or “warning stroke” caused by a temporary blockage. About 87% of strokes are ischemic strokes. Many strokes can be prevented through healthy lifestyle changes and working with your health care team to control health conditions that raise your risk for stroke.

Steven and Donna Overly have pledged $5 million to create the largest scholarship gift ever received by the UF College of Medicine – Jacksonville.

Through their bequest, the Overlys are removing financial barriers for future physicians and investing in compassionate, community-focused care. Their legacy will empower generations of medical students to follow their passion - whether in public health, rural medicine, or research.
We are deeply grateful for their investment, vision, generosity, and belief in the future of medicine.
A will can be more than a plan, it can be a powerful act of giving.
