Solo Trip Quarter 4: Lafortuna, Costa Rica, Maleku Tribal Village, and San Ramon, Costa Rica! 🇨🇷 ✈️
Even though this was my second trip traveling through Costa Rica was an experience that touched every part of my spirit. I spent my time exploring La Fortuna, San Ramón, and the Maleku Tribal Village—each place offering its own rhythm, beauty, and wisdom.
I visited during the rainy season, which meant La Fortuna was quiet and peaceful.
One of the most meaningful parts of my trip was visiting the Maleku Tribal Village. I had the honor of sharing lunch with the Chief of the Maleku people, an experience I’ll never forget. As we talked, I learned how deeply they honor nature. The Maleku believe that all of nature is life—every tree, river, stone, and animal carries spirit. Their beliefs come from a creation mythology rooted in Toca, the god of creation, and their worldview is beautifully polytheistic, full of reverence for the natural world. Sitting with the Chief, sharing food, and listening to stories felt like stepping into a living tradition.
I also spent time at the Ticote medicine farm, where I learned about the powerful herbs that grow throughout Costa Rica. Walking through the plants, hearing about their uses, and seeing how generations have passed down this knowledge was incredible. It made me appreciate nature in a deeper, more intentional way.
And of course, no trip is complete without family. Eating home-cooked meals with my Costa Rican family brought me so much joy—warmth, laughter, and plates full of fresh, flavorful food. Those moments grounded the entire trip.
Costa Rica isn’t just beautiful to look at; it’s a place that teaches you something if you’re open to learning. From the quiet rain in La Fortuna, to ancestral wisdom in the Maleku village, to the healing plants at Ticote, I left feeling more connected—to nature, to culture, and to myself! 🤍🇨🇷🌱
