A thoracic aortic aneurysm occurs when a portion of the aorta, the body’s largest artery, bulges or enlarges. It often has no symptoms until it becomes life-threatening.
Risk factors include:
🔹 High blood pressure
🔹 Hardening of the arteries (atherosclerosis)
🔹 Smoking
🔹 Connective tissue disorders
🔹 Family history
If an aneurysm dissects, it can cause sudden, severe chest or back pain and requires emergency surgery. Early detection through routine imaging is key to preventing complications.
