A pulmonary embolism (PE) happens when a blood clot travels to the lungs, blocking oxygen flow and causing serious complications. Common risk factors include recent surgery, long periods of sitting or bed rest, cancer treatments, smoking, obesity, heart disease, and pregnancy. If you’re at risk, talk to your doctor about prevention.
