🧠✨ Who Started ABA?
When we talk about the beginnings of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), there are a few key names to know:
➡️ B.F. Skinner (1930s–50s): The scientist who discovered how behavior is shaped through reinforcement (known as operant conditioning). His work created the science behind ABA.
➡️ Baer, Wolf & Risley (1968): Published the famous paper “Some Current Dimensions of Applied Behavior Analysis”, which officially defined ABA as a field of study and practice.
➡️ Dr. Ivar Lovaas (1960s–80s): A pioneer who applied ABA principles to help children with autism learn communication and life skills.
💡 So while Skinner gave us the science, Baer/Wolf/Risley defined the field, and Lovaas brought ABA into autism therapy—together, they shaped ABA into what it is today.

Today, we pause to honor the nearly 3,000 lives lost, the families forever changed, and the countless first responders who ran toward danger with courage and love.
For many of us, the memories of that day are etched in our hearts—the shock, the sorrow, and the unity that followed. Out of tragedy came resilience. Out of darkness, light in the form of compassion, kindness, and community.
As we reflect, let’s also carry forward the lesson of that day: to cherish each moment, to hold our loved ones close, and to choose empathy and hope even in the hardest of times.
We remember. We honor. We stand together. 💙❤️🤍

🗣️💬 What is AAC?
AAC stands for Augmentative and Alternative Communication. It includes all the different ways someone can communicate besides vocally.
✨ Examples of AAC:
• Using pictures or communication boards 📖
• Sign language 🤟
• Speech-generating devices or apps 📱
• Gestures, facial expressions, or pointing 👋
AAC is especially helpful for children with autism and other communication challenges. It gives them a voice—whether spoken words come later or not.
đź’ˇ Why is AAC important?
• Reduces frustration by giving children a way to express themselves
• Builds confidence and independence
• Encourages social connection with family, peers, and teachers
• Supports language growth (AAC does not stop speech development—it often helps it!)
Every child deserves to be heard, and AAC makes that possible. 🌟

Reading with your child isn’t just cozy and fun—it can also be a powerful learning tool! Our RBTs and BCBAs often use books to target important skills, like:
✨ Language Development – Asking/answering questions (“What is she holding?”), labeling items, and expanding vocabulary.
✨ Comprehension – Retelling parts of the story, sequencing events, or predicting what might happen next.
✨ Social Communication – Talking about characters’ feelings and practicing perspective-taking.
✨ Attending Skills – Sitting, listening, and staying engaged with the story.
✨ Imitation & Play – Acting out parts of the book with toys, puppets, or role-play.
Every page offers opportunities for learning, growth, and connection. 💡 And the best part? You can use your child’s favorite books at home, too!
What’s a story your child never gets tired of? 📖💬

🚌✨ Back-to-School Safety Tip: Transportation Edition ✨🚗
The school year is here, and that means bus rides, carpools, and drop-offs are back in full swing! A few reminders to help keep your child safe and set up for success:
🚌 Bus Safety
• Practice walking safely to and from the bus stop together.
• Teach your child to wait until the bus comes to a complete stop before approaching.
• Review bus rules (staying seated, quiet voices, keeping hands to self) with simple visuals or social stories.
đźš— Car Safety
• Always double-check seat belts or harnesses are fastened securely.
• If transitions are tough, build in extra time for getting in and out of the car calmly.
• Consider keeping a small reinforcer (like a favorite toy or fidget) handy for smoother rides.
👩‍🏫 Extra Tip: Let your child know who will be picking them up each day—consistency helps reduce anxiety and confusion.
Here’s to safe, smooth rides to school this year! 💙

Caring for your child means giving so much of yourself every day—but don’t forget, you need care too. One small step can make a big difference:
✨ Take 5 minutes just for you.
Whether it’s enjoying your coffee while it’s still hot, stretching, stepping outside for fresh air, or simply sitting in silence—those moments help you recharge.
Remember: You can’t pour from an empty cup. Filling your own cup first makes it easier to pour love, patience, and energy into your child. 🌟
What’s your favorite 5-minute recharge? Share it below—we’d love to hear your ideas! 💬
