A Champion for Change: Michal Bennett-Smith

Next, we have the immense pleasure of honoring our second-place winner of Shareem's Touch, Love & Care LLC Future Healthcare Leaders Scholarship, an extraordinary leader and a true champion for change: Michal Bennett-Smith!

Michal is a first-generation graduate student on a mission to earn her doctorate, but her journey began long before she entered a lecture hall. Growing up, she witnessed a healthcare system that too often left people behind. She saw firsthand the barriers that stood between her neighbors and quality care—the lack of local pharmacies, the confusion over prescriptions, and the heartbreaking reality that some went without critical medication because they couldn't afford it. These early experiences weren't just a part of her story; they became her unwavering call to action.

Fueled by a passion for healthcare justice, Michal's long-term goal is to become a pharmacist and, eventually, a pharmacist-lawyer. She is building a unique and powerful expertise that will allow her to become a fierce advocate, bridging the critical gap between medicine, policy, and law. Her commitment to this vision is evident in her academic pursuits, where she's already making an impact. At Florida A&M University, she conducted groundbreaking research on how racial disparities influence healthcare outcomes by investigating the antioxidant effects of grapes on breast cancer cells.

She also participated in a multi-year ecology research project, reinforcing her commitment to the interconnectedness of environmental and public health.

The day is finally here! The applications for our inaugural Shareem's Touch, Love & Care LLC Scholarship are officially closed, and we're absolutely thrilled to announce that we have two deserving winners!!!!

First, a huge, heartfelt thank you to everyone who shared our post, spread the word, and, most importantly, to all the incredible students who took the time to apply. Reading your stories and seeing your passion for a career in healthcare was truly inspiring and made our first year unforgettable. You made our decision incredibly tough—in the best way possible!

We have personally reached out and notified both of our deserving scholarship recipients, and we are so excited to be a support system for these wonderful students on their journey. We can't wait to see all the amazing things they will achieve and the positive impact they will have in the healthcare community.
