šŸ–Šļø The Writing Space is HERE — and we are starting with a bang.

A mental health blog for people of color, high performers, and the deeply motivated who are doing the work of healing in and out of the therapy room.

Expect culturally grounded content on anxiety, food & body image, mindfulness, and stress management -rooted in lived experience, honoring your identity, your strengths, and the unique challenges our communities face every day.

šŸ–¤ Black Girl on the Rise: Rebalancing Act 1 šŸ–¤

For the achievers holding everything together. The ones who were never really given permission to pause. This post is the beginning of a bigger conversation about what it truly means to rise, not just in success, but in wholeness.

Therapy client or not, this space belongs to you.

Representation in mental health isn’t just about visibility — it’s about belonging. When people see their culture, identity, and lived experiences reflected in the conversation, healing becomes more accessible. Everyone deserves to feel seen, heard, and supported on their mental health journey.

Healing begins with recognition: By understanding and honoring the Black experience, mental health care becomes more authentic, more compassionate, and more effective. Representation isn’t just symbolic — it’s transformative.

Stay tuned for more about ways we can continue to transform the mental health space. Did you know About 4% of mental‑health clinicians in the United States are Black, based on recent workforce data. This reflects a significant underrepresentation compared with the U.S. Black population (about 12–13%). I am grateful to be apart of that number, but also realize that there is so much work to !šŸ–¤

It’s about that time to reintroduce myself to all the new faces here. Especially, with this being the start of Black History Month🄰!!

WelcomešŸ‘‹šŸ¼ — I’m genuinely glad you’ve found your way to this spacešŸ’ƒšŸ½. This page has always been an extension of my voice outside the therapy room. While you won’t find clinical treatment here, you will find my reflections, motivational content, educational insights, and messages that speak to the heart of the work I’m committed to.

I’m excited to share that I’ve recently added licensure in Virginia, expanding the reach of my practice alongside my ongoing work in New York, Florida, and South Carolinaā˜ŗļø. This growth allows me to support a wider community and deepen my mission to make mental health care more accessible and less stigmatized — especially for people of color and those with marginalized histories who deserve affirming, culturally grounded care.ā¤ļø

Another meaningful chapter unfolding is my transition into the academic space. With over a decade of clinical experience, I’m grateful for the opportunity to teach and help shape the next generation of clinicians. It feels like a natural extension of the same mission: widening the circle of care and transforming how therapy is experienced.

If you’re new here, I hope this space feels grounding, real, and welcoming. I’m grateful you’re here.

šŸ§˜ā€ā™€ļøšŸ§˜šŸ½ā€ā™€ļøšŸ§˜šŸæIn a world that often demands urgency, learning to notice and slow down is a radical act of self-care—especially for those whose histories include marginalization. Many of us were never taught to center our own experience, to pause, to feel, and to respond with intention. Instead, survival often meant reacting quickly, suppressing discomfort, and prioritizing others’ needs over our own.

Learning to slow down is a powerful act of self-care- every pause, every breath, is a step toward healing. Calm is not a luxury—it’s a right.

🌿 Belonging is not something Black women should have to earn.
Teyana Taylor’s recent acceptance speech offered a truth that sits at the heart of mental health for so many Black women: you deserve to take up space without shrinking, apologizing, or proving your worth twice over.

In clinical work, I see how often Black women carry the weight of being ā€œthe strong one,ā€ the fixer, the one who pushes through even when the room wasn’t built with them in mind. That pressure can quietly erode well‑being — not because of any personal shortcoming, but because belonging has too often been conditional.

Her message is a reminder and a reclamation:
✨ Your softness is valid.
✨ Your boundaries are valid.
✨ Your ambition is valid.
✨ Your presence is valid.

When Black women feel seen, supported, and affirmed, the impact is profound — not just individually, but across families, workplaces, and communities. Belonging is a mental health intervention. It’s protective. It’s liberating. And it’s overdue.

Let’s be intentional this Friday—because care and creativity go hand in hand. šŸŽƒ

Instead of splurging on overpriced candy bags, consider stocking up on budget-friendly items like boxes of Ramen or shelf-stable snacks. Not only does this stretch your dollar, but it also creates an opportunity to offer kids impacted by food insecurity a warm, comforting meal. A little thoughtfulness goes a long way.

This season, I’m also exploring ways to support our local food pantries—because caring for our own is non-negotiable. If you’re in or near the 13205 zip code in Syracuse, here are a few places accepting donations:

• Belle Grove Missionary Baptist Church
219 West Castle Street, Syracuse, NY 13205
šŸ“ž (315) 492-7588
• Brotherly Love Church Of God In Christ
1234 South State Street, Syracuse, NY 13205
šŸ“ž (315) 475-6233
• Dunbar Association
1453 South State Street, Syracuse, NY 13205
šŸ“ž (315) 476-4269

If you’re looking to make an impact beyond your neighborhood, here are national food pantry networks that make it easy to donate or find a local partner:

• 🄫 Feeding America
A nationwide network of over 200 food banks. You can enter your ZIP code to find donation sites or volunteer opportunities near you.
šŸ”— Visit Feeding America Feeding America
• 🄣 FoodPantries.org
Lists over 16,000 food pantries, soup kitchens, and food banks across the U.S.
šŸ”— Search by city or ZIP code Food Pantries
• šŸ½ļø WhyHunger
Offers a hotline and searchable database to connect people with emergency food providers and support services.
šŸ“ž Call 1-800-5-HUNGRY or text your ZIP code to 1-800-548-6479
šŸ”— Explore WhyHunger whyhunger.org
šŸ“ž Call 211 or the National Hunger Hotline at 1-866-3-HUNGRY

Let’s show up with heart and purpose. Whether it’s a box of noodles or a bag of rice, your small gesture could be someone’s big relief. ā¤ļø

I'm so excited to finally share this update: I'm now licensed and offering virtual therapy in Virginia! 😁

More than just expanding my practice, this is about expanding access. I am dedicated to providing a supportive therapeutic space for women of color and marginalized individuals—communities that have been historically underserved.

Using a client-centered and DBT-informed approach, my goal is to provide care that is not only effective but also affirming and empowering. I'm eager to connect with the professional community in Virginia and collaborate to better serve our communities.

ā˜€ļøAs a working parent, I constantly juggle meetings and the desire to create a magical summer for my kids. Some days, the balance feels impossible—but I remind myself that presence matters more than perfection.

Whether it’s a spontaneous ice cream run or a quiet moment watching the sunset, these small connections are what truly make summer special.

Balancing work, parenting, and personal well-being takes intentional grounding and mindful planning.

šŸ’”Here are some strategies to stay present and connected while enjoying the season:

✨ For Parents:

Breathe & Reset before switching from work to family mode.

Set Realistic Plans—quality time > packed schedules.

Ground Physically—barefoot walks, water splashes, or holding a calming object.

Micro Self-Care—stretch, sip tea, or step outside for fresh air.

Release Guilt—boredom = creativity!

šŸ§’ For Kids:

Nature Walks—explore textures, colors, & sounds.

Sensory Play—sand, water, & clay help with tactile grounding.

Bubble Breathing—blow bubbles slowly to practice deep breaths.

Storytelling & Visualization—imagine walking barefoot in grass or listening to waves.

šŸ’” Summer isn’t about perfection—it’s about presence. Let’s enjoy the moments & stay grounded!

Shout out to for this very necessary reminder!šŸ™ŒšŸ½

I know I may be biased, but there’s something truly special about being entrusted with the space where my clients can grow. The moment they allow themselves to be vulnerable—sharing their stories, placing their trust in me, a total stranger—it gets me every time.ā˜ŗļø

To me, my clients are never just numbers. They are individuals who deserve to be heard.

Speaking from both my personal experience as a client and my professional journey as a clinician, I believe that sharing our narratives is one of the most transformative acts of self-compassion and care.

So whether you choose me or another clinician, I wholeheartedly applaud anyone who makes the courageous decision to prioritize themselves by processing their experiences outwardly.

Be well, friendsāœŒļø
