I am glad that a doctor reported this abuse of the patients. Our healthcare system is broken. Unfortunately, many patients just go with what doctors tell them to do. Protect yourself and your loved ones. Ask questions, research options and get second opinions. Whenever possible, take someone with you to appointments or hire a nurse advocate.

Interesting article that I came across. It goes into the patient rights being taken and an increase in people reaching out for attorney help since COVID. I have personally seen patients being neglected in the hospitals. I have even seen medications being forced when no one is there to stop them. The care has exponentially decreased since COVID. Please don't leave your loved ones alone to face the hospital alone.

We are navigating scary times. It is imperative that you do not leave your loved ones alone in the hospital. Most hospitals have current protocols about restricting visitors during Covid. It is CRITICAL that someone is there to advocate for their loved ones needs. Do not take NO for an answer when a hospital says, "no visitors." Fight for their rights to have an advocate/support person. According to a study at Johns Hopkins University, the 3rd leading cause of death in America is preventable medical error. Don't leave your loved ones alone to face this. The hospitals are overworked and under staffed which makes care decline on many levels. Your loved ones may be at risk! If you have a family member in a facility of any kind, please visit often. If circumstances do not allow, hire an advocate. I was researching memory care complaints at some local facilities here in Southern Oregon and found this article. I believe the neglect/abuse is under reported just simply because this population cannot advocate for themselves...

Abuse cases were more than twice as common in memory care as ordinary assisted living, The Oregonian/OregonLive found.
