I took a short break from social media.๐Ÿฅฐ *highly recommend*
While I was away, I had the honor of supporting and witnessing a beautiful, strong birth. ๐Ÿ’™..What a sincere joy it was.

So honored to watch a Baddie Birther rock her induction and welcome a sweet baby into her arms.

You might think you're just being informative by sharing your baby's due date, but what you're really doing is:

๐Ÿ‘‰Making it harder to be pregnant past your due date when people keep asking why you still haven't had the baby

๐Ÿ‘‰Inviting people into your labor experience who will want to give you tips on how to "start labor"

๐Ÿ‘‰Carrying other people's stress about your baby's birthday

๐Ÿ‘‰Putting the focus on the baby rather than your well-being and needs

๐Ÿ‘‰Making the wait seem even longer

๐Ÿ‘‰Questioning your baby's ability to be born

My baby is due sometime in November."
๐ŸŒŸ"She'll be born between October and November."
โญ"She'll come when she's ready."
โœจ"We're hoping to have her late fall."
๐ŸŒŸ"Due dates aren't accurate, so we're open to her coming weeks before or after her due date."

I get it. You're excited and want to share the joy with others, but only 4% of babies are actually born on their due date, and about 50% of first-time moms give birth closer to 41 weeks. So, do yourself a favor and get comfortable with the idea that you don't know when your baby will be born.

This. This. This! Mamas, your uterus can push out your baby! ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿผ Just because you are "complete" doesn't mean it's time! Pushing before your body tells you it's time can lead to prolonged pushing and a higher risk of damaging your pelvic floor and perineum. A forceful approach to pushing can also lead to stress on your baby's heart rate, especially when there is not enough recovery time in-between contractions.

These are great labor movement! Every body is different. Try these and see how they work for you.

What an honor to witness such strength, such calm.
What an amazing way to begin any day.
Mamas, intentional self-care and preparation can pay off for birth!

It will be a great night!

Letโ€™s drop the filter for a minute.
We know youโ€™re strong. We know youโ€™re doing your best.
But sometimes even the strong ones need space to exhale.

So this week's challenge is simpleโ€”but real:
Finish this sentence: I need this night becauseโ€ฆ

Maybe itโ€™s:

๐Ÿ’” โ€œIโ€™ve been taking care of everyone but myself.โ€
๐Ÿ˜ตโ€๐Ÿ’ซ โ€œIโ€™m exhausted from being โ€˜fineโ€™ all the time.โ€
โœจ โ€œI want to reconnect with the woman I used to be.โ€

Whatever your answer, we see you. And this is your chance to receive something just for YOU!

๐ŸŒฟYes! This! And it is always an honor to witness and hold space for each mama as she journeys through her unique birth story. ๐ŸŒฟ

Doulas have to surrender too.

Birth always involves surrender for mothers. We talk about open hands, soft jaws, low sounds, and the release that's needed to welcome a baby. But doulas, you'll find that fully supporting a woman in the thick of it involves our own kind of release. We have to be willing to let go of our own plans, and fully lean into trust.

Supporting mothers means that we unreservedly believe that they are the best ones to decided what's right for their body and for their baby. It isn't our job to make sure they the "right" kind of birth, whatever we personally believe that looks like. It's our calling to walk alongside them, provide guidance when they look to us, and to help them uncover their own desires.

If we go into births expecting to "save" the mother, we'll miss the chance to serve her. We must surrender what we think is best and center what the mother knows is best for her.
