A Look in the Mirror

As humans, our default setting isn't exactly selflessness. We often judge ourselves by our intentions, but judge others by their actions. We can be quick to accuse without first looking in the mirror.

But Jesus calls us to live differently:

“Do to others whatever you would like them to do to you. This is the essence of all that is taught in the law and the prophets.”
Matthew 7:12 NLT

Often referred to as the “golden rule,” it’s a brilliant litmus test for discerning how to respond to people in the face of hardship, uncertainty, and pain.

Here are some ways we can apply this verse to our daily lives:

WHEN SOMEONE HURTS YOU...

Think: Have you ever hurt someone, either accidentally or intentionally? And when the mistake was made or realized, did you want to be screamed at and given a harsh consequence, or did you long for grace and a second chance?

To the extent that we forgive, we are forgiven. So what if, today, we give others the same grace, compassion, and mercy that we'd like to receive?

WHEN SOMEONE IS STRUGGLING...

When you personally experience hardships, you might seek counsel from a pastor or mentor, but you probably also want a friend who will listen and help you process. You want someone to come alongside you who can handle your honest thoughts, and help you navigate the hurt in this world.

Just as we need people to encourage us, we are also called to be that source of support to others. So today, consider what you can do to point people to God’s love and truth.

WHEN SOMEONE HAS ANNOYED YOU...

People can be irritating at times. But if you're ever considered an annoyance by somebody else, would you rather that person talk bad about you, or have patience with you? We are all works in progress and are all called to show mercy and grace.

So this week, when you’re tempted to lash out at someone requiring a little “extra” of you, or dismiss someone who’s getting on your last nerve, consider asking yourself: If I were them, what would I want?

If we want to live like Jesus, we need to do what He asks of us. And Jesus explained a key mindset in following Him—to treat others how you want to be treated.

“The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.” Proverbs 9:10 (KJV)

Wisdom doesn’t begin with answers it begins with reverence. When we honor God, placing Him first in our decisions, thoughts, and desires, we open the door to true wisdom. The fear of the Lord is not fear that pushes us away, but reverence that draws us closer.

Understanding comes through knowing the Holy One, not just intellectually, but relationally. As we seek God’s heart, He sharpens our discernment and gives clarity in moments of uncertainty. When life presents choices that feel overwhelming, wisdom flows when we pause, pray, and submit our way to Him.

Prayer:
Lord, teach me to honor You in every area of my life. Increase my wisdom and deepen my understanding as I grow in knowing You. Order my steps according to Your truth. Amen.

📖 Short Devotional:
“Run Free, Run Focused”
There comes a moment in every believer’s journey where God whispers, “It’s time.”
Time to let go.
Time to heal.
Time to move.
Time to run the race marked out for you.
Hebrews 12:1 tells us to strip down, throw off the weight, and run with patient determination. That means:
Letting go of what drains your spirit.
Refusing to carry burdens God didn’t assign you.
Choosing discipline over distraction.
Walking in purpose instead of pressure.
Today, God invites you to breathe, reset, and start again. You don’t have to run fast — you just have to run free. Your race is not a competition; it’s a calling. And every step you take is a step toward the version of you God already sees: strong, focused, and victorious.
Prayer:
“Lord, help me release every weight that slows me down. Strengthen me to run my race with patience, clarity, and faith. Surround me with Your presence and keep my eyes on the path You have set before me. Amen.”

One minute everything is okay, and the next minute life changes.
2025 has taught me how fragile life really is and how important it is to be grateful, intentional, and surrounded by the right people in every season. I didn’t expect everything that happened this year—but it did, and I give God all the glory because I’m still here.
My doctor told me my surgery would be complicated and it was but it was also successful. From check-in to recovery, God gave me peace. As I was taken into surgery, I spoke Psalm 23 over my life and trusted God completely. He was with me in the beginning, the middle, and the end.
The issue I was facing is now corrected, and I am truly grateful. To God be the glory.
Even in victory, there are moments of sadness. This morning we learned that our Auntie Louella passed away. Please keep her son, and Cooney family in your prayers.
As we celebrate this holiday season, let’s remember the reason for the season Jesus. Love on your family and friends, let them know you care, and keep pushing forward.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
God is still in control. 🙏✨
