Thriving Thursday birth tip!
Many couples either don’t know what a doula can do for them or believe a doula would infringe on their privacy.

And some doulas may.

BUT, a well trained Christian doula respects the privacy of the family unit and actually enhances the relationship between the couple and baby, ensuring a better, more close knit bond.

At Agape Doulas, we ask the mother how involved she wants her husband/partner to be and when birth arrives, we tailor our services around that.

We show husbands how to do counter pressure, hip squeezes, lift and tucks, light massage, keeping her hydrated, etc.

After birth, we encourage dad to do skin-to-skin and baby massage daily.

Attending to a mom in labor can be exhausting, so imagine not having a doula and having to support mom without help. Nurses are not their doula, they have far too much work to be sitting with mom 24/7.

Navigating the right questions to ask a provider when things aren’t going as planned is also something dads typically don’t know how to do, where a doula knows the research and can ask key questions to prompt mom and dad to think clearly and concisely to reach an informed decision.

Thriving Thursday Birth tip!!
If you’ve hired a Doula and are using a midwife for your birth experience, whether at home or in a birth center, it’s a great idea to make sure that your Doula and midwife meet each other and ask any particular questions to get to know each other’s practices better. For example, what one midwife would suggest for maternal exhaustion may not be the same for another midwife. It also helps the client to understand what typical protocol for that midwife looks like. So even if the Doula already knows the answer, it’s good for the client to know the answer.
This is called coordination of care and it can be done with a OB/GYN, however, they typically don’t take the time to coordinate care like this.

Have you been to a lactation consult and still having difficulties?
All lactation consultants are not the same, nor do they all give the same advice. I highly encourage you not to give up, but instead reach out to lactation consultants that have excellent reviews. If you’re in the Jacksonville area, make sure to come to our monthly breastfeeding support group and stay for the lactation clinic if you need one on one time with our IBCLC, Randina Hoyt. She’s the best in town!

Tonight, I want to pay homage to my Lord and King, the maker of heaven and earth, the One who wakes me with breath in my lungs every day of my life on this earth, the One who sacrificed His life for us all. King Jesus, Messiah, King of kings and Lord of lords, You are my One thing, not just a thing, but my all, the One I take a breath for, the One I get out of bed for. Thank you for taking the ultimate sacrifice on the cross for us. We don’t deserve it but you loved us that much that you were willing to die for us. I love you Jesus! Love 💕 🤗 👑 🦁 🐑 🙌✝️

Wacky Wednesday postpartum tip!
Tonight during worship my friend’s sweet baby came into the sanctuary with his mother. He was crying vigorously and I was deep in worship but what struck me was how faint that cry was because he is just a newborn. It was a flustered cry and I hoped my friend was not anxious hearing her baby cry.
Then in that moment, the Lord said “I’ve created babies to cry, this is part of my creation and it’s a beautiful sound to me.”
Sometimes, the things that bother us actually bring joy to our Father.
Lord, I pray that we view things through your eyes, that we see things as you see them, understanding your ways and your dimension.
I also had the pleasure of holding another baby in our PostBirth group this week. The baby didn’t really need anything, sometimes babies just want to be held.
