We had to share this touching rendition of Lonely People - America by our very own Funeral Home Administrator Rebekah Udell.

"This video is me playing for my dad, Pappy as the grandkids called him, at Arlington Park Cemetery where he rests with my mom, brother, and uncles. Being able to work in the funeral home that has served my family time after time, and across the street from the cemetery that holds my loved ones and childhood memories, is priceless. Monday was dad’s heavenversary, and I wanted to feel close to him. I felt there was no better way to do that than to bring his old guitar to the cemetery to play for him. Music holds memories and brings connection.

Our family is a musical one, and I grew up listening to everyone playing guitars and picking up on each other’s songs. My uncle Jack, who is resting close to my dad, would add some banjo or harmonica to the mix. My papa would play old country chords on the piano. I picked up piano by ear and learned basic chords on the guitar that I could play along with the family. I’ve never considered myself good; it’s just comforting.

The song I’m playing, “Lonely People” is an old folk song that my aunt taught me and is the first full song I learned. I played it as a birthday gift for my dad many moons ago. The name and tune of the song eluded me Sunday night, but as I sat there with my dad at the cemetery, it came back to me. Call it muscle memory or music memory, but I think it was a little more divine than that. Midway through the video a light starts to beam down- I know that was my dad shining down on me.

Beautifully renovated in 1997, Arlington Park Funeral Home was designed with your family’s comfort and convenience in mind. The 4,700-square-foot facility houses two visitation rooms and has the capacity to serve large gatherings. An inspirational chapel, with seating for more than 100 guests, and a comfortable family lounge are among the many amenities of the funeral home. Arlington Park takes great pride in serving all cemeteries and all faiths. Arlington Park has served Jacksonville families for more than 70 years. The cemetery’s immaculately maintained and landscaped grounds cover approximately 30 acres.
