A True knot 😍
Did you know a baby can actually tie a real knot in their umbilical cord during pregnancy?
It’s called a true knot, and it happens when a baby moves through a loop of the cord and creates an actual knot- tying a loose knot in a rope. How cool is that!
Surprisingly most true knots don’t cause harm at all and many babies are born perfectly healthy with one!
✨ True knots happen in about 1% of pregnancies
✨ They usually stay loose and continue delivering oxygen and nutrients
✨ Many aren’t discovered until the moment of birth
✨ Providers simply monitor baby closely if one is suspected
The most important thing to remember: babies are incredibly resilient, and the umbilical cord is designed to protect blood flow even with twists and knots.
At A Birth Connection, we believe education replaces fear with confidence. Knowing what things mean during pregnancy and birth helps families feel more calm, prepared, and empowered.
Have you ever heard of a true knot before? Or has your provider ever mentioned one?
