I see this pattern so often.

Your symptoms aren’t random.

Your patterns, beliefs, and mindset affect more than just your brain. They affect your whole body.

These patterns put your nervous system into a hyper alert state, which places your body into fight or flight- even when you aren’t realizing it.

This hyper vigilant mode of never shutting the brain off, always worried about others needs impacts your gut, hormones, energy, inflammation, immune system.

A stressed out state doesn’t prioritize digestion. Motility changes, stomach acid lowers. This means food isn’t broken down well, you’re bloated, and often either constipated or having diarrhea. Heartburn is often seen here as well- when stomach acid is low, your lower esophageal sphincter doesn’t get the memo to close meaning you’re left with reflux and heartburn.

This also leads to poor nutrient absorption- which can correlate with anxiety and depression, as well as less than optimal hormones.

Poor gut health often correlates with hormone imbalance as a healthy gut is needed to metabolize and detox estrogen. Heavy periods and breast tenderness are often a gut issue, not hormone.

When your brain can’t shut off and is hyper vigilant, blood sugar is imbalanced as it goes hand in hand with cortisol. And all of these impact progesterone which is meant to balance with estrogen. When progesterone is low we may see heavy periods, as well as irritability and PMS.

All of this circles back to low energy and inflammation. Minerals become depleted with long term stress. Blood sugar and gut imbalance impact inflammation greatly.

It all circles back together. Which is why when I help women with their chronic symptoms, we’re looking into patterns.

Have you been a people pleaser?
Do you feel you’re worthy?
Are you supported?
Are you a perfectionist?

It’s not just about fixing the imbalances. It’s about working on the patterns that triggered them as well- that is how you get long term results.

I hate food sensitivity tests.

They’re sold to you as if food is to blame.

“Cut out these foods and your symptoms will disappear!”

In reality the food is just exposing that something deeper is going on.

And that’s why cutting out foods isn’t the solution. Symptoms continue, more symptoms arise.

Not to mention they’re not perfect with results. You may take the test and be given one set of findings, and retake it months later with different findings.

I assume if you’re taking or considering a food sensitivity test, you’re battling symptoms: bloat, heartburn, IBS, diarrhea, acne, eczema, hives.

So the bigger question is what is happening in my body to react poorly to foods?

As a functional health practitioner, we focus on this big question. I use labs that actually give guidance to heal your body: gut microbiome testing as well as mineral testing.

Furthermore, we’re looking at the signals your body is receiving that impact how you tolerate foods.
➡️Is your body hypervigilant scanning for threat?
➡️Are you worrying more about others around you instead of connecting with your body?
➡️Do you have extreme pressure on yourself to succeed?

All of these and more impacts your digestion and therefore food tolerance.

If you’ve had a food sensitivity test and still struggling, or have a growing list of foods you know you can’t tolerate, it’s time to get real answers and long term relief.

You’ve been trying more and it isn’t moving the needle.

Or, maybe it works for awhile, then plateaus. And the cycle continues.

Resolving your bloating, constipation, diarrhea, heartburn, heavy/painful/irregular periods, acne

➡️ will never be about doing more.

It’s about being intentional.

Doing more is only stressing you out more.

And guess what the biggest driver for gut and hormone symptoms is?

STRESS.

Let’s be intentional and strategic. My method involves 2 main parts:

1️⃣ Nervous system regulation aka safety in the body. Sometimes this means working on eating enough, getting optimal sleep, getting sunlight, and sometimes it’s working on the patterns keeping you hyper vigilant.

2️⃣ Functional labs to quit guessing. I use the GI map stool testing and HTMA mineral testing. No more guessing. We’re addressing what’s imbalanced.

My method is realistic. I know how it is to be a busy, working mom. But there’s always ways to have intention in your practices instead of spinning your wheels.

I’ve heard this from several women and my first thought always is: this is exactly why we need to get started.

It’s a common misconception that working on resolving your chronic gut and hormone symptoms is time consuming. It takes time, yes (slow and steady wins the race), but not much time out of your daily life.

We live in a busy society. Women are working full time, kids are busy in activities, maybe there’s work trips in the mix. Go, go, go.

But that’s exactly what’s making your bloat, IBS, stomach pains, painful periods, acne worse.

Your everyday stress is keeping your body in fight or flight. This means your s*x hormones aren’t prioritized, digestion slows, inflammation steady increases.

No, I won’t make you quit your job or have a 2 hour morning routine. But here’s what I will do:

➡️Give you tangible tips to help your body that you can easily work into your day.

I know your time is valuable. But I also know that living a busy life, not giving your body what it really needs to feel safe AND resolve your symptoms, is adding fuel to the fire.

I only recommend realistic strategies that you can fit into your life. As a busy mom of 2, I get it 🤎 it’s about intention, not doing more.

Your body isn’t waiting for life to slow down.
Healing starts when you decide your health matters now.

A friend shared this and in her comments I found out that many insurances allow for screening at age 45 without symptoms.

I said to my husband, “4 more years til you get a colonoscopy”.

He said “I don’t even know what that entails” 😳 (even though I had one a few years ago and he took me!).

Time to learn if you’re unfamiliar:

Colon cancer is on the rise in younger ages. Screening is recommended to start at 50, but like I said, now many insurances allow it at 45 I’m told.

I’ve been a nurse during colonoscopies in the ICU and I had one myself in 2021. It was so easy. The prep is annoying but what’s one day out of your life?

Screening for colon cancer is recommended as symptoms don’t typically show until later stages. Early detection can save your life!

If you’re unfamiliar with colonoscopies, there’s different forms of prep to clean your colon the day before- likely physician preference. During the colonoscopy they’ll give you sedation. A colonoscopy is a scope of your colon. There is a thin tube with a camera attached that the GI doc inserts through your re**um, and in your intestines. There is a screen with a visual of your colon in front of him, and they’ll often take photos. This procedure looks for any polyps, tumors, or anything else suspicious.

The procedure is quick and painless.

I know I harp on conventional medicine from time to time as it’s not made to help chronic problems but I am still very much pro-early detection.

February 🤎🩷 You were a great one.

Celebrated 4 years alcohol free.

Watched my girl play volleyball and do great! (One of my favorite things).

Celebrated turning 40 in the most perfect day for me: lunch with my family, my favorite coffee, steak dinner at home. I’m so grateful for this life 🥰

My favorite coffee shop named my go to drink after me 💕

The most beautiful flowers from a mentor after completion of our time together.

And lots of slow evenings as it was our first month without kids sports since August.

I’m continually working on loving myself more, something we all need to do. February was a great month to dive deeper into that ✨
