🎨✨ CALLING ALL DISABLED ARTISTS! ✨🎨 The Center for Independent Living Jacksonville is celebrating local talent—and we want to feature YOU!

Are you a disabled artist in Northeast Florida? We’re looking to showcase your work on our website, social media, and in our office. All mediums welcome: painting, photography, digital, sculpture, fiber arts, and more!

Happy Labor Day everyone. This is taken from the Disability Rights Florida website. It is a great reminder that Labor Day is a celebration of everyone in the workforce, including people with disabilities and the support team that makes it possible for them to be there. Labor Day is for everyone. Today, we honor people with disabilities, caregivers, and all in our workforce who make our communities stronger every day. Workplaces should be accessible and fair for everyone, no exceptions. When each person has what they need to succeed, we all move forward together.

Calling all Artists:
Are you or someone you know a local artist with a disability who is looking for a new way to share their love of art and creativity with the community?

If so, then the Center for Independent Living is looking for you!

We want to feature art work by people with disabilities in our office, on website,through our social media. We went to feature you!

Here’s how it works.
Anyone wishing to apply should send a short bio of themselves along with 2 to 4 pictures of their art to awalker@ciljacksonville.org by September 3, 2025 deadline . All mediums are welcome!  Please join us in celebrating our talent and supporting our community. We are excited to see what you come up with.

Honored to Advocate at the State Capitol!

We are grateful for the opportunity to advocate at the Florida State Capitol in Tallahassee, speaking with legislators in the House and Senate about the vital disability programs and services provided by CILs and the State of Florida. It’s crucial to ensure our leaders understand the impact of our work in the community and the importance of accessibility, inclusion, and independence for all. Together, we are making a difference!

🚨 Warming Centers Open Tonight 🚨
With dangerously cold weather expected, the City of Jacksonville has expanded its Warming Center Contingency Plan to meet community needs.
Three Warming Centers will be open from 9 PM tonight until noon tomorrow for residents without access to adequate heat:
📍 The Legends Center
5130 Soutel Drive, Jacksonville, FL 32208
📍 Cecil Gym and Fitness Center
13531 Lake Newman, Jacksonville, FL 32221
📍 West Branch Library
1425 Chaffee Rd S., Jacksonville, FL 32221
🚍 Transportation Assistance: JTA will assist those needing transportation to the centers as long as conditions allow.
