This month, we honor a life and career that has reshaped the very foundations of
Jacksonville. AGPAPE is proud to Celebrate Rev. Dr. Landon Williams’ legacy in Jacksonville. From the docks to the pulpit, his "Full-Circle Care" has transformed our city:

Health: Founding Agape Family Health to ensure healthcare for all.
Housing: Constructing a $13M state-of-the-art senior living community.
Faith: Leading Greater Macedonia Baptist Church since 1976.
Labor: A legendary voice for equity at the Port of Jacksonville.

We honor the visionary who saw a need and built a legacy. Today, we proudly carry that mission forward.

Before the 1950s, specialized care for children wasn't the norm in Jacksonville. Dr. Charles B. McIntosh changed that forever.

A graduate of Old Stanton High, he became the city’s first pediatric specialist. His profound impact includes:
Eastside Legacy: Establishing a practice that served thousands of local children.
Medical Breakthroughs: Leading groundbreaking Sickle Cell research right in Jax.
Trailblazing: Serving as the first from his community on the Florida Board of Medical Examiners.
We are inspired by his dedication to our youngest residents and medical excellence in every neighborhood.

As the first medical facility in the city dedicated to training local nurses, Brewster Hospital didn't just treat patients—it built a workforce of healers. In its very first year, these dedicated student nurses made over 1,200 house calls across the LaVilla neighborhood, bringing healthcare directly to the doorsteps of those who couldn't reach a clinic.
The "Brewster Nurses" became legendary for their skill and were recruited by hospitals all over the country. Their legacy of community-based outreach is the same heartbeat that drives AGAPE Family Health today.

When the Great Yellow Fever Epidemic of 1888 struck Jacksonville, while half of the city fled, Dr. Alexander Darnes stayed to save Jacksonville.

As the first resident physician in the city with a Howard medical degree, he was a pillar of strength during our darkest chapters. From his Ocean Street practice, he battled Yellow Fever and Smallpox outbreaks and mentored legends like James Weldon Johnson. We honor his bravery and his belief that care belongs wherever the people need it most.
