It’s completely normal to feel guilty when you step away from caring for a loved one—but remember, taking breaks does not make you a bad caregiver. In fact, it makes you better. When you rest, recharge, and care for your own well-being, you return calmer, more patient, and more present.
Plan short, regular breaks—even 30 minutes counts. Arrange safe support from family, friends, or professional caregivers, and trust that your loved one will be okay. During your break, do something just for you: take a walk, read, meditate, or simply breathe.
Remind yourself: “Resting is part of caregiving.” Your well-being matters. The more you care for yourself, the better care you give.
