Jacksonville Plastic Surgery & MedSpa (The Practice of Dr. John J Obi)

Jacksonville Plastic Surgery & MedSpa (The Practice of Dr. John J Obi) Jacksonville Plastic Surgeon John J. Obi, MD provides plastic surgery of the face, breast, and body

At Jacksonville Plastic Surgery & MedSpa, the offices of Board Certified Plastic Surgeon Dr. John J. Obi, we strive to provide State of the Art treatment in a safe, caring and comfortable environment with an emphasis on patient education and understanding. Most of the surgical procedures we offer can be performed in our on-site outpatient facility which is accredited by the American Association for the Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgery facilities (AAAASF). Upon arrival new patients receive an information / personal health questionnaire to complete. They are then escorted to the Audio-Visual room to view a video, if appropriate for their desired procedure. They are then seen in consultation by Dr. Obi and his assistant for a discussion of their areas of interest, a review of their medical history and examination. A very detailed description of the procedure as well as possible options for treatment in addition to the risks is then carried out, and any questions are answered. They may then consult with our Surgery Coordinator regarding the timing of surgery and the necessary arrangements.

If you are noticing issues with the duration of your “TOX” treatments, this might be one reason for less duration. But there are also other reasons as well… other theories could be related to your having had COVID-19 or the vaccine, or even a zinc deficiency. We offer complimentary touch up at 2-4 weeks and if your treatment doesn’t last as long as you think it should, we will help you look into the “why”.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT LIP FILLERS BEFORE GETTING INJECTIONS

Our collective love of lip filler has gone nowhere but up, cementing its spot among other beauty hall-of-famers.

Most younger patients just want a more fuller lip , where as more mature people (and YES, MEN 🧔‍♂️ get lip injections, too!!!) have a completely different motivation — they just want their lips to feel closer to how they did 20 years ago; to correct the volume loss that happens over time.

How important is a provider's technique and aesthetic?
Don't be fooled into thinking this is an easy-breezy procedure — quite the opposite. Having work 💉on the 💋is actually one of the more complicated noninvasive facial enhancements a person can get.
Inexperienced injectors may leave their patients with the pesky, but correctible, filler bumps or migration to other areas around the lips giving an odd (🙊or 🦆) appearance rather than beautifying the face. To resolve the filler bumps, often a result of too much filler being injected too superficially, most of the time you can smooth them out, but if there's no change, bumps and over correction may need to be fixed with a reversal medication.
An inexperienced injector injecting the labial artery potentially causing skin necrosis is a real complication that can be catastrophic. Basically, it's the worst nightmare/complication of every provider who does injections. This doesn't have to mean doom if your injector is experienced and prepared! There's safety with using a filler that's easily dissolved and knowing how to recognize and treat a complication.
🚩🆘We instruct ALL patients on discharge that if you see a color change, or an increase in pain to in your face, not just your lips to call us immediately! We can quickly treat to reverse it with hyaluronidase. If you go anywhere fir filler injections and they do not show to their htaluronidase or explain these complications prior to injecting you, 🚨🏃‍♀️; jump and run!!!!
To significantly skirt the doomsday potential side effects, it’s important for patients to entrust — and only entrust — a board-certified injector as they've gone through years of exhaustive medical training to not only avoid such possibilities, but they can also be counted on to dive right in to mollify the damage if any such rare side effect did occur.
WHAT TO DO PRIORTO YOUR APPOINTMENT?
⚠️Pre-injection caution of no-no's across the board in the week leading up to a lip filler appointment, and most crucially, 48 hours prior, include no smoking, drinking alcohol, taking blood thinners, and using dietary supplements, like St. John's Wort, vitamin E, and fish oil, because they soften the blood, which can lead to a higher chance of bruising and swelling. If you’re on prescription medication you need to check with your prescriber prior to skipping doses.
If you adhere to those “no-no’s” , you will cut out a lot of side effects like swelling and bruising.
These are minor danger level complaints with a relatively common frequency.

💋How long until the final look appears?
In the first few days after the injection, you may experience a bit of uneven bruising and swelling until your lips settle into their final position. Allow up to two weeks to let it all settle down, before making any decisions about whether you like it or not, and starting planning further lip reshaping.

🗓How long will lip filler last?
There's a bit of range here, depending on the type of filler and patient lifestyle, but most doctors estimate a life of six to 12 months. Filler metabolizes faster in patients who are young, physically active, or enjoy a high metabolism. Also a factor is the volume of filler injected (i.e., smaller amounts won't last as long).

💋With mature patients we rarely inject more than half of a syringe in one appointment, which contributes to how long-lasting it will be. The lower volume [of filler injected], high vascularity, and extreme movement all play a role in a filler's lifespan. Most people come back at 1- 2 months to have a little more added once the swelling subsided - this helps avoid an unnatural appearance.
💰How much will lip filler cost?
Most respected injectors won't inject more than one syringe into the lips in one appointment. If more volume is desired, multiple sessions are necessary over the course of a few months to avoid distorting the lip shape and the face. If too much filler is injected there are risks as well as distorted or lumpy looks; a major catastrophic complication can occur if a novice injector inadvertently injects filler or compressed the lip (labial) artery potentially causing skin necrosis.

💋Contrary to popular belief — and likely a solid argument behind the staying power of lip filler — is that lip fillers have many benefits aside from that plumped-up look. But don’t be fooled into thinking this is an easy-breezy procedure — quite the opposite.
To give lip fillers their due, consider all the facts — including the potential risks — first!

Veterans Day is a day to celebrate and honor the men and women that have served in the U.S. Army, Navy, Air Force and Marines.

The day was originally called Armistice Day. In some countries like Canada and Great Britain, it is now called Remembrance Day. It marks the end of World War I in 1918, when Germany signed the armistice and the Great War ended on the “eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month,” otherwise known as November 11.

Although Armistice Day was celebrated annually in the U.S. from 1919 onward, the federal holiday didn’t become official until 1938.

Poppies for Rememberance
Poppies are often worn on lapels to remember Veterans and the soldiers that died during wartime. The symbol was adopted after War World I because poppies grew in the fields of France and Belgium, where major western front battles occurred.
During and just after the end of World War II, there was a grass-root movement to use the November 11 Armistice holiday to honor all veterans, not just the ones that served in World War I. In 1954, President Eisenhower, a World War II veteran himself and a rare five-star general, signed a law renaming Armistice Day. This is how November 11 became Veterans Day.

Every November 11, take the time to thank a veteran that has served the U.S. military in peace and wartimes.

We thank all of those who served and are now serving🇺🇸💙🙏❤️🇺🇸💙🙏❤️

How To Handle Horizontal Neck Lines With A Variety Of Options

How much time do you spend looking down at your phone every day? This simple act—along with genetics, accumulated sun damage, and normal age-related changes—contributes to visible lines that run horizontally across the neck that eventually remain visible when you’re looking straight ahead.

As with other fine lines that are limited to the skin’s surface, there are several non-invasive, minimal-downtime treatments that can smooth the appearance of minor horizontal neck creases.
