Aleshia had a calm demeanor and was inspiring to the patient, calming her nerves while listening and speaking words of encouragement to help the patient through. In July, the American Heart Association awarded Onslow Memorial with the Get With The Guidelines®-Stroke Silver Plus with Target: Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll award. Get With The Guidelines - Stroke is an in-hospital program for improving stroke care by promoting consistent adherence to these guidelines, which can minimize the long-term effects of a stroke or even prevent death.

To honor this achievement, we asked a few of our teammates who work directly with stroke care what receiving this award means to them.

On Friday, some members of our attended the Jacksonville Police Department's Family Fun Field Day, an event to celebrate the last Friday before the start of the school season. We did some face painting and gave away some goodie bags! 🎨☀

As the school year kicks off into full swing, so do the return of youth sports. Whether your child is lacing up their cleats for soccer, suiting up for football, cheering on the sidelines, or hitting the volleyball court, the risk of sports related injuries is real, and common.

Sports related injuries are among the most common reasons students see a healthcare provider during the school year.

Here are a few simple ways to keep your body refreshed this summer:

✅ Avoid dehydrating drinks like alcohol, juice, or coffee!
✅ If you sweat, be sure to replenish your electrolytes!
✅ Eat hydrating foods like cucumbers or watermelon!

Onslow Memorial Hospital is a 162-bed facility founded in 1944 and located in coastal North Carolina. Our competent medical staff of over 100 doctors is credentialed in over 25 specialty areas, including anesthesiology, cardiology, dermatology, emergency medicine, family practice, gastroenterology, internal medicine, nephrology, neurology, oncology, ophthalmology, oral surgery, orthopedics, otolaryngology, pain management, pathology, pediatrics, plastic surgery, podiatry, pulmonology, radiology, surgery, and urology.
