Our baby loves going to therapy at Arkansas Children's Therapy Group they do an exceptional job with him and we love the communication so that we are all working together both in therapy and at home.
A very very special thanks to Ms. Alexandria Julian , one of our Occupational Therapists. We love her attention to details, therapeutic strategies and communication techniques that help Luke to transition. This morning she did an extraordinary job transitioning our son. He's always excited about therapy but this morning he realized he left something behind in the car. She knew this because he hesitated in moving forward and stopped walking with her.
He couldn't say Ms. Alex I forgot something but she felt him communicating let's go back. He pulled back and she could have pulled forward which we understand. However in bringing him back to the car to see what he'd forgotten we both realized he wanted his shark to attend therapy too. This was more about comfort and giving him peace emotionally, and mentally. This small moment was so huge in my heart because there was so much empathy, compassion, and listening in this moment and it communicated trust as well!
.... I was so impressed with the way she was listening and paying attention to the way he communicated. Some children can say what they want or need, with our son he communicates his wants and needs differently right now. He didn't have pictures, didn't verbally sound it, he resisted moving forward and she didn't force him forward. Resistance was communicated but she listened, asked him what he wanted and helped him. I later learned that he became frustrated during therapy before transitioning to his speech therapist. She remembered our conversation of how we implemented his visual schedule at home to help reduce frustration during transitions.
I learned that she showed him all the pictures of his therapists to communicate where he would go next. I love her heart that pours out into her work, what she does seen and unseen doesn't go unnoticed.
She's been a big help to us in the creation of his visual picture schedule at home! Immediately when I told her about it she didn't hesitate to help. Thank you for always going above and beyond. I'm sure it's not just with us but because I see it..... I appreciate you, thank you from our family to yours and we are extremely grateful to have therapists who care for the people they serve.
