The Rayans were initially arrested on Aug. 26, a day after Shawn McCoy’s nearly 13-year-old Labradoodle, Charlie, passed away. McCoy and her son had taken Charlie to Compassionate Care for cremation.
Days later, a detective contacted McCoy with disturbing news: Investigators found Charlie’s remains in a black trash bag in the bed of a pickup truck, exposed to the heat of the day.
“It’s very sad that somebody would come to our little community and think that they could get away with it,” McCoy said.
She described Charlie as laid back, friendly, and like another child in her family. She said her granddaughter is just a few months older than Charlie and the two grew up together. She said Charlie was the first pet she has had.

“He just made me feel better. I had something to come home to. My kids are all adults.”
News4JAX was present as animal remains were uncovered behind the cremation facility. The Rayans were released on bond but were later taken back into custody in Louisiana.
Camden County Police Chief Rick Evans called the case “among the most disturbing I have encountered in my law enforcement career.”
Nader Rayan is no stranger to controversy. He previously served jail time as the former manager of an Atlantic Beach cemetery after accusations of defrauding families who sought the I-TEAM’s help in 2016.
The exact number of pet owners affected by this scandal remains unknown.
McCoy expressed how the situation has made grieving even harder. “It’s a constant reminder,” she said.
Kingsland Police have not released additional reports on the new charges, citing the ongoing investigation.

I made this response to a concerned client of years about this deplorable pet cremation place here in Jacksonville that operates under " smoking mirrors " And I QUOTE :

Thank you for your concern. They won't ! It's all just beginning now. It won't be an immediate resolve but they will answer to what they have done no doubt ! And the owner of this place will to. The owner knew exactly what was going on. How could he NOT KNOW? But he did yet continued to let this happen. I know the owner Stephen and will not list his last name on their website. It's his ex wife and he provided everything for them financially. It's all gonna come out. Just let law enforcement do their thing and you'll see. These people are the bottom of the barrel. Actually they are the WORMS at the bottom of the barrel. When the police really get into investigating all of their back grounds they will find a pattern of deception, fraud and deceit. Oh this is just now beginning in my option and you know I know what I'm talking about after over 40 years of helping pet owners in need. This may actually help legislature trying to get regulation approved on the house floor to REGULATE this industry to prevent this from ever happening again. It takes things like this to " wake people up " who are in control of establishing regulations and guidelines. I have said it for years this business MUST get regulated at some point and this just may be the catalyst to open the eyes of those who choose to ignore the multiple attempt over the past several years to regulate the pet death care industry. They won't be severely punished for burying the animals in the back of the business but " fraud by deception " oh yeah, they will be held accountable. Yet for the families involved there may be no actual resolve of the " remains " which is just beyond heartbreaking but I do think and hopefully believe the lawsuits will start soon if not already.
