Caring for someone with dementia teaches you quickly… logic doesn’t always work.
But connection, creativity, and emotion do.
Here are simple strategies that may seem unusual, but truly make a difference:
1. Go along instead of correcting
2. Sing instead of speaking
3. Use soft toys for comfort
4. Create a calm sensory space
5. Keep hands busy with simple tasks
6. Use smaller plates for meals
7. Remove mirrors if they cause fear
8. Use calming scents like lavender
9. Give them a sense of purpose
10. Disguise exits to reduce wandering
11. Play nature sounds for calm
12. Use a trusted person as an “anchor”
💛 The truth is…
Dementia changes memory, not emotion.
When logic fails, connection works.
