University of North Florida's new Department of Physical Therapy to meet growing need for skilled therapists

There is currently a large demand for trained physical therapists to care for patients suffering pulmonary complications and those recovering from prolonged hospital stays due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

What does this mean to you?
To address this increasing demand for trained physical therapists, UNF Brooks College of Health has elevated its physical therapy doctoral program to a new Department of Physical Therapy. The new PT department will focus on expanding and enhancing its academic programs, faculty-led research, and local partnerships. Additionally, the department will offer unique programs to UNF students such as the post-professional residency in orthopedic practice at Brooks Rehabilitation and future residency programs in areas of specialty practice such as pediatrics, faculty development, and neurology. Initiatives such as this demonstrate how the State University System is committed to fueling Florida’s future by continuing to meet growing workforce needs in the state.

Bottom line?
The State University System is a good return on investment.

Dr. Beven Livingston, Associate Professor in the Department of Physical Therapy, graduated from the prestigious Educational Leadership Institute, a program of the American Physical Therapy Association.

The Fellowship has been the recipient of the "Power of A" award presented by the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) for leadership and innovation. The year-long program takes participants through leadership content, provides mentorship with established academic leaders, and asks students to develop a personal leadership plan and project to be implemented at their home institutions.
