Yoga breathing, simplified.

Breath practices hold incredible potential but can feel confusing at first, especially when unfamiliar words like "Ujjayi" or "Pranayama" are introduced without explanation. What do they mean? How do you actually do them? This beginner-friendly breath workshop breaks it all down in a simple, practical, and approachable way.

You'll learn some of the most common yogic breathing techniques, what they are, how to practice them, and how they can support you both on the mat and in everyday life. We’ll include a small amount of gentle, accessible movement to support the breath, but the primary focus is on learning and experiencing simple, effective breathwork that you can carry with you into any setting.

Whether you're brand new to yoga or simply want to deepen your connection to the breath, this is a great place to begin.

One of the most beautiful parts of retreat is the unstructured, unplanned time. If you’re someone who enjoys quiet moments to read a book, take a walk, or rest in a hammock beneath the trees, this retreat is for you.

While we do have some shared practices and planned offerings, everything is optional, and there’s plenty of spacious, unstructured time to simply rest, reflect, and soak in the stillness of the mountains.

We would love to have you with us. If you have any questions or would like more information, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

October 9-12

🪷 How Bhakti Yoga has carried us through loss...

🪷 Over the span of just a few years, we lost three of our parents. The grief has been heavy, raw, and at times overwhelming. There have been moments when it felt like the world had cracked open beneath us, when even simple things felt impossible.

🪷 Bhakti Yoga is what helps us keep breathing, feeling, and moving through the grief. Through music, mantra, and devotion, Bhakti has given us a way to feel and express what words can’t touch. It moves through us like a current and reminds us that our sorrow isn’t something to hide or fix, but something sacred to be honored, witnessed, and shared.

🪷 Our journey has been deeply shaped by the presence of heart-centered Bhakti teachers like David Newman, Sean Johnson, and Govind Das, who embody the essence of this path and whose presence, teachings, and music have taught us what it means to love with our whole hearts, without holding back. Thank you.

🪷 Bhakti doesn’t take the pain away, but it gives it a place to move. It gives us a way to stay open in the midst of heartbreak and to remain connected to our parents, to each other, and to something greater than ourselves.

🪷 This practice continues to be a lifeline. A reminder that even in the ache of loss, love is still carrying us. And we are grateful to share it with our community. We will be gathering tonight at 7:00 to sing together in the spirit of Bhakti. You are welcome to join us🙏🏻

When we first started looking for a space for our yoga studio, we were working with a shoestring budget and did a whole lot of figuring it out along the way. Somehow we pieced it all together and Black Cat Yoga came to life.

This picture isn’t staged or rehearsed. It’s just a random snapshot that reminds us how deeply grateful we are for the community that continues to show up for each other and make this place what it is. Thank you 🙏🏻

Spaces that nourish, gather, and connect us don’t survive by accident. If we want soulful neighborhoods, we have to show up and care for the family-owned restaurants, local bookstores, boutique yoga studios, mom-and-pop shops, and other small businesses that offer something that can’t be replicated: real connection.

We know it’s not easy for anyone right now and want to thank you for contributing to the warmth and growth of this locally rooted community. Every gesture matters 🙏🏻

You are the heart behind it all 💛

LISA McCORMACK, eRYT-200, YACEP, is Co-Owner of Black Cat Yoga Jacksonville. She has been a devoted yoga practitioner for over a decade, began her teaching journey in 2014. Her classes are thoughtfully designed to support and benefit each and every person who walks into the room. Her classes focus on alignment, mindful movement, core-strengthening/integration, meditation, breath awareness, and self-care. By maintaining a consistent level of accessibility in her classes, Lisa has helped numerous people move beyond perceived limitations into a greater sense of well-being and a deeper mind-body-spirit connection. She also plays harmonium and guides crystal bowl sound healing meditations, a unique harmonic experience which induces states of deep relaxation, energetic balance, and promotes healing.

KEVIN McCORMACK, eRYT 200, YACEP, is Co-Owner of Black Cat Yoga. He began his transformational journey as a yoga student over 10 years ago, with his commitment to share his passion as a yoga teacher starting in 2014. His reverence for yoga is woven through his teaching and his practice. He creates a space for his students to have a deep inward experience, while at the same time developing a larger awareness of the physical and energetic practice of yoga. Kevin offers a smooth-flowing, alignment-based sequence that is accessible to all levels of practitioners. His intention is that all yogis may experience the true nature of themselves through the mindful application of breathing and moving their bodies in a deep meditative state of being.
