To the worker at Wawa who gave me a free coffee at 3:30am on the way to a client:

Thank you for seeing me. You saw the words doula on my shirt and knew. You knew I was on my way to a middle of the night call to a client and just needed a cup of coffee. Your kindness made my night! 🥰🥰🥰

And no, I’m not crying, I’m just tired! 🤣🤣🤣

So good!!!!!!! 😍

Why doesn’t anyone tell you that self care isn’t just about loving yourself? It’s about getting away. Not just physically, but mentally. It’s about forgetting about the day to day grind long enough to be at peace again. What does that look like for you? How often? Is it meditation? Is it bike rides, getting in/on the water, out in nature? Creating something? I used to think self care was binge watching my favorite tv show and getting pedicures, when really, it’s all about taking the intense emotions that try to bottle up inside and infusing them into something that makes us better, stronger, more joyful. The law of energy states that energy is neither created or destroyed. Do you have anxious energy? Parent rage? Take everything you have inside and put it into something beautiful. Because if you don’t, it will find an outlet and it will probably be the most inopportune time and on the ones who deserve it the least.

As parents, we often prioritize everyone else’s needs before our own, which inevitably leads to disaster at some point, whether it turns into burnout, fits of anger and rage taken out on the people we are caring for, or just pure unadulterated resentment.

How can you fight to UNAPOLOGETICALLY take care of yourself regularly?

Self care isn’t a one size fits all. It’s not just pampering yourself with pedicures and Target runs. Self care is hard work. It requires self reflection and SLOWING DOWN. You get to pivot what isn’t working for you and reset your boundaries when necessary.

Because at the end of the day, no one is going to prioritize you but you.

I love being a doula. I love supporting women in birth and postpartum. It was so encouraging to be with other birth workers and businesses who offer maternal support at the Jax Bump & Beyond Expo!!!

When your family shows up to the Jax Bump & Beyond Expo and you get to show them a glimpse into your doula world 😍😍😍
