Hands up if you agree! 🤗

Self-acceptance is a terrific place to start for those of us who want to make a change in our lives. This first step to unlearning challenges requires courage, self-awareness, and humility to accept that your own beliefs, mindsets, or behaviors are limiting your potential and current performance and that you must consciously move away from them. Accepting your existing situation fully helps us to go ahead on firm ground, from a position of truth and honesty. Self-acceptance may be the most powerful gesture of self-love.

Disclaimer: recovery is a process. There might be ups and downs, and it doesn’t have to be perfectly linear. Everyone experiences recovery in different ways and at different times. It’s important to remember to respect your body no matter what phase of recovery you are in. It is also not black and white. You might be in between different phases. If you are on your way to recovery, I’d highly recommend this book for support and inspiration. Simply remember every day is a new day😊

Hands up if this is the first time you’ve learning about Intuitive Eating 🙌
Did you know you were born as an Intuitive Eater? Perhaps this is hard to believe at first and that’s completely understandable given that we live in a society where dieting is the norm. Did you know, Intuitive Eating was first introduced in 1995 by two Registered Dietitian Nutritionist, Evelyn Tribole and Elyse Resch. Since then there has been over 150 research studies conducted to learn more about how this non-diet self-care eating framework impacts overall health and quality of life making Intuitive Eating an evidence-based practice. Whereas there is zero evidence to date showing the long-term benefits of dieting. 🤓 Bodies of research make it pretty clear that diets don’t work because it goes against our bodies innate wisdom and ability to survive.
To learn more about Intuitive Eating and ways you can focus on your health goals from a non-diet perspective ➡️ we invite you to come join us for a FREE Intro into Intuitive Eating and Health At Every Size ®️ group workshop on Wednesday, 3/23 from 4-5 pm at the Boathouse in the Student Union. There will be free beverages and snacks as well as take home goodies! 🛍 Open to all UNF students, faculty, and staff.

Thank you to and our amazing participants for a fun and tasty National Nutrition Month Cooking Demo! Chef Brook Adams showed us how to prepare a fresh fruit and avocado salsa and a Greek-style salsa!🤩 We sent everyone home with a free bag of groceries which included all of the ingredients needed to replicate the recipes at home, fresh lettuce from our tower garden, and a few extra items to use in the kitchen!

Meet Sam Cartina - the newest Wellness Dietitian at UNF
Sam is originally from Chicago, IL but had to move away from the cold midwest winters. ☃️ She has found her new home here in JAX and loves trying new places to eat and going to the beach.🏖 Sam is passionate about teaching people how to reject the diet mentality for Intuitive Eating and Health At Every Size approach because dieting is not the path to overall health and wellness. She believes health is an outfit that looks different for everybody and that we all can promote our health through cultivating a healthy relationship with food, mind, and body. 😌
Sam is available for nutrition counseling on Thursdays and Fridays and is so excited to work with you to help you reach your goals.
