Danielle survived a cardiac arrest when her twins were babies thanks to her husband, Joe. He called 911 and performed CPR until paramedics arrived.

Five years later, Danielle arrived home from picking up the twins from kindergarten to find Joe unresponsive. She tried CPR, but he was already gone. He had undiagnosed cardiomyopathy.

Danielle shows the twins photographs of their dad and shares what kind of man he was. "Now that they're older, we've talked a number of times about how we have to make sure their hearts are healthy, which Daddy's wasn't."

She makes sure the family gets plenty of exercise and eats heart-healthy foods. They're helping get awareness out, too. When the twins were in second grade, they brought home a brochure about Kids Heart Challenge, an AHA fundraiser focused on teaching kids to keep their hearts healthy.

"I told them, 'Oh, we should do this in memory of Dad and raise money so other people don't have to live without their dad like we do,'" Danielle said. "He was a big-hearted person, a big guy with a big heart."
