The Speech & Hearing Center was founded in 1949 as one of the first speech and hearing centers to serve children in Northeast Florida. In 1948, there were no services in the Jacksonville area for children with hearing or speech problems, although hearing,

speaking and understanding the spoken language are essential components to a child's growth and development. For more than 70 years, the Center has provided professional, compassionate care to thousands of children and adults on the First Coast, providing them with the necessary communication tools to live a more fulfilling and productive life.
