Did you know? According to the Office on Women’s Health, approximately 1 in 8 women experience symptoms of postpartum depression (PPD) within the first year after childbirth. But here's the bright side: many women with PPD go on to achieve full recovery.
So, what exactly is postpartum depression? It's a mental health condition that can affect women during pregnancy or in the months after giving birth. The period following childbirth, known as the postpartum period, can bring about feelings of sadness, anxiety or being overwhelmed.
Some mothers may find it challenging to connect with their newborn or experience a lack of love or care for the baby. While these feelings can arise at any time, if they persist for more than two weeks, it could be a sign of PPD.
Recognizing the signs and symptoms of postpartum depression is crucial for early intervention and support.
Let's spread awareness and support during Maternal Mental Health Month and National Women's Health Week. If you or someone you know is experiencing these symptoms, know that help is available. 💕
