At the end of each treatment, I assess the radial pulses, a traditional technique that goes far beyond checking heart rate. Each wrist has six pulse positions, representing different organs in the body. By feeling subtle differences in depth, rhythm, and strength, I can gain insight into how the body is responding and rebalancing after care.

Your Body’s Natural Reset Button: How Acupuncture Helps You Rebalance

Dr Michael here!

Have you ever felt like you needed a reset button for certain situations or how you are feeling? What if I told you there is a way to reset yourself, would you? Acupuncture can reset your body to where it needs to be. How can it do this, you ask?

First thing to know is that acupuncture is part of an ancient practice founded on the understanding that your vital energy (qi) flows along specific pathways called meridians. These meridians are stimulated at certain points called acupoints. Each point and meridian is associated with an organ in the body. So, when we stimulate these acupoints they aid in the natural healing of the organ associated with it.

What are some benefits from regular acupuncture treatments? Well, you would get relief from chronic pain, you would feel your stress reduce and your emotions balance, and your digestion and nutrient absorption would improve. You would feel a lot better physically and emotionally and notice that you rarely get sick.

How do you maintain how you feel? The answer is easy. Make your acupuncture appointments regularly- we want you to be balanced and healthy! Combine other things like massage therapy and eating right. And most of all listen to your body and communicate with your practitioners.

If you are ready to reset yourself, contact us at Acupuncture & Holistic Health Center on 4540 Southside Boulevard, Suite 302 in Jacksonville, FL. You can set up an appointment with our front office at 904-296-9545.

The Power of Touch and Flow: How Massage and Acupuncture Work Together

Dr Michael here!

Massage and Acupuncture is a powerful combination of treatment that assists with reduction of pain and muscle spasms. What are you getting when you combine both therapies?

An acupuncture treatment can actually enhance a massage therapy treatment for several reasons. Massage therapy treats the soft tissue issues like muscle tightness, restrictions, spasms and scar tissue. It also assists by mobilizing tissues that require separation like adhesions, scars and contractures, moves the lymph, and flushes out lactic acid buildup.

Acupuncture releases blockages in the energy pathways which improves blood circulation and reduces inflammation in muscles, nerves, and joints. And like massage, acupuncture relaxes your body and relieves stress.

How do we mix this together? An example would be where your muscles are tight and painful, no matter how much you stretch. Our massage therapists work deeply on the tissues to release the contraction in the muscles. Acupuncture works on breaking the tension-pain cycle between the nerve and the muscle and restoring energy and blood flow to the muscles. Together, acupuncture and massage work to reduce pain, increase range of motion, and promote healing.

If you have muscle pain and tension issues, come see us at Acupuncture & Holistic Health Center on 4540 Southside Boulevard, Suite 302 in Jacksonville, FL. You can set up an appointment for both services with our front office at 904-296-9545.

Coming back from a stroke-How can acupuncture and massage therapy help you?

Hi, Dr Michael here!

As a holistic doctor who has treated many people who have suffered from a stroke over my 41 years in practice, gaining most or all of your function afterwards is always the goal. I wish I could say there is a magic way of reversing the damage that has been caused, but really it is time that will decide when you will be back to your usual self.

What can acupuncture do to help stroke victims? Glad you asked. Acupuncture can be used to treat several symptoms of stroke to include brain and nerve recovery, muscle pain and stiffness, speech deficits, balance, walking, and many other issues as well. At least 27 countries have made comments on the positive impact of the use of acupuncture on stroke victims. There is solid evidence for the effectiveness of acupuncture for stroke recovery, and more evidence is coming forward regularly. Of course, acupuncture should be used along with other therapies such as physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy to help gain more control.

There is more to be said about receiving acupuncture treatment for stroke. It is an ongoing treatment, and it is not a one and done kind of thing. As I said in the beginning, time will decide. And with that you need to work with all of your practitioners including experienced acupuncture physicians like me to gain back control.

Let our experts at the Acupuncture & Holistic Health Center help you get back your old self as much as you can. Stroke typically needs long term care, and we are dedicated to helping you through your healing journey. Call us at 904-296-9545 or visit us at 4540 Southside Boulevard, Suite 302 in Jacksonville, FL.

Post-Acupuncture: What’s Normal, What’s Not, and How to Maximize Your Results
Hi, Dr Michael here!
I have had several people ask me what you should feel after you have an acupuncture treatment, and if what you were feeling was normal. First of all, everyone is a unique individual so each person’s experience can be different.
Having said that, what is typically normal? A person typically has a mixture of different things. You can feel relaxed, tranquil, and feel more alert all at the same time. Some people may feel an emotional release as yourself healing is triggered. Feeling relieved from pain and having more energy are common occurrences. All of these are signs that you are responding correctly to treatment, and the acupuncture is activating the self-healing mechanisms in your body.
What are some things that you can do to maximize your results? First of all, listen to your body and don’t be afraid to communicate with your practitioner. They are here for you, and we aren’t mind readers, we are body readers. Allow yourself to rest and avoid doing strenuous activities for two hours after a treatment. Other things you should do to help yourself after a session is to hydrate with water, eat healthfully, and follow your acupuncture physician’s recommendations regarding taking herbs and supplements between visits. Take the time to stretch it out since this will also help promote circulation and prevent stiffness.
There are some things that I would discourage doing after an acupuncture session. One is to avoid sugary or caffeinated drinks (sorry coffee lovers) as they can counteract the calming effects of acupuncture. Don’t lift heavy items or perform intense cardio workouts right afterwards as that disrupts the healing process and deplete your energy that is needed for your body to self-heal.
Be a partner in your healing process by giving clear communication to your acupuncturist, knowing your body and following the guidelines set forth by your care team. You can start by calling us at Acupuncture & Holistic Health Center 904-296-9545 or visit us at 4540 Southside Boulevard, Suite 302 in Jacksonville, FL. We are here for you!

How to help yourself breathe easier- it is easier than you think

Dr. Michael here!

Do you often find yourself short of breath especially when you are not exerting much effort? Do short walks leave you so winded that you feel like you need to sit down before you get where you need to go? Anyone, any size can feel like this. So how can we help ourselves breathe easier? There are many easy ways you can help yourself.

The best approach to help you breathe easier is to find out the underlying cause of the breathing issues. Acupuncture can help by correcting your energy imbalance that is causing your breathing issues. Although the lung meridian energy is where your symptoms are, the cause may be coming from a different meridian of energy and organ system. For example, the kidney meridian could be the cause. Our experienced acupuncture physicians at the Acupuncture and Holistic Health Center are experts in treating the root cause of various breathing issues like asthma, bronchitis, and even COPD.

Stress often can lead to anxiety or panic attacks when you feel like you are sinking. A way to reduce that is to treat yourself to a relaxing massage, meditation, or taking a relaxing bath. I know finding an affordable masseuse can be daunting especially when most only will give you thirty minutes when you need at least an hour. You need someone to get deep into the tissues and get all the tense muscles undone and that requires time.
Maybe you need to strengthen your lungs through breathing exercises. Meditation works great as it helps with breath control.

Here at Acupuncture & Holistic Health Center, we can help you breathe easier, whether it is some treatments with one of our awesome acupuncturists, or having one of our wonderful massage therapists help you with muscle tension and stress. If you would like to breathe easier call us at 904-296-9545 or visit us at 4540 Southside Boulevard, Suite 302 in Jacksonville, FL. We are ready to help you!

Find Relief from Seasonal Blues with Acupuncture

Dr Michael here!

As the seasons change, many people experience fluctuations in their mental health. Seasonal depression, a clinically recognized condition, typically emerges during the fall and winter months when shorter days and reduced sunlight begin to affect the body’s natural rhythms. While holiday festivities like Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's bring joy for some, others may find these months more difficult due to stress, grief, or the “winter blues.”
Acupuncture therapy, a form of traditional Chinese medicine, offers a unique and effective way to combat the symptoms of seasonal depression. This therapy involves the use of fine needles at specific points on the body to relieve pain and balance energy. While the sensation can be likened to a mosquito bite or a mild tap to your elbow, the potential benefits extend far beyond physical relief.
One of the most significant advantages of acupuncture is its ability to stimulate the production of neurotransmitters such as serotonin and dopamine—chemicals that play a key role in regulating mood. By boosting these natural "feel-good" hormones, acupuncture can help alleviate the emotional weight that often accompanies seasonal changes and holiday stress.
At Acupuncture & Holistic Health Center, located at 4540 Southside Boulevard, Suite 302 in Jacksonville, we offer natural, holistic remedies to support your mental health this season. Whether you're dealing with the seasonal blues or seeking stress relief during the holidays, acupuncture can be a powerful tool to improve your well-being.
We are here to support you and your family during this time of year. To schedule an appointment or learn more about how acupuncture can benefit your mental health, call us at 904-296-9545. Let us help you make this holiday season a little brighter with natural, effective therapies.

Acupuncture Isn’t Just for When You’re in Pain—Here’s Why Regular Visits Matter

Dr. Michael here!
A question I hear all the time is, “How often should I get acupuncture?” And the answer depends on what you’re coming in for—but more importantly, what you want to maintain. Acupuncture isn’t just a short-term fix; it’s a tool to help you feel your best over time.
At first, treatments are often scheduled more closely together—maybe once or twice a week—especially if we’re working on something acute like pain, anxiety, or sleep issues. But once your symptoms improve, the focus shifts from fixing to maintaining. That’s where the real magic of acupuncture starts to show. Just like exercise or eating well, consistency is what keeps your results going.
Maintenance acupuncture supports your body’s ability to regulate itself. It keeps your nervous system calm, your digestion flowing, and your immune system ready. You might notice fewer stress flare-ups, more restful sleep, better focus, and an overall feeling of balance. Even once a month treatment can make a huge difference in how your body handles stress, pain, and day-to-day life.
Massage fits perfectly into this picture. While acupuncture works from the inside out—regulating internal systems—massage works from the outside in, easing muscle tension and improving circulation. Together, they create a powerful support system for your mind and body.
Holistic medicine takes it a step further by helping you understand why your symptoms show up in the first place. Whether it’s lifestyle, diet, hormones, or emotional stress, we look at the full picture so your treatment can be more effective and long-lasting.
Your body wants to stay well—it just needs the right support. Acupuncture maintenance gives your body the space and the signal to keep healing long after the symptoms are gone.
Come visit us at Acupuncture & Holistic Health Center, located at 4540 Southside Boulevard, Suite 302, right here in Jacksonville. Call 904-296-9545 to schedule your next session and learn how regular care can keep you balanced, centered, and well.

Acupuncture, Massage & Holistic Care: A Gentle Reset for Your Whole Body
Dr. Michael here!
When we think about healing, it’s easy to focus only on symptoms—like pain, stress, or fatigue. But the truth is, your body is constantly working behind the scenes to restore balance. The real question isn’t whether your body can heal—it’s whether it’s getting the support it needs to do so.
That’s where acupuncture, massage, and holistic medicine come in. These therapies don’t just treat symptoms. They help your entire system reset, recharge, and rebalance.
Acupuncture works by gently encouraging the nervous system to shift out of stress mode and into a calm, healing state. It improves circulation, supports the immune system, and helps regulate hormones and digestion. People often leave a session feeling clearer, lighter, and more grounded—like their whole system just took a deep breath.
Massage complements this beautifully. It relaxes tight muscles, eases physical tension, and helps move stagnant energy through the body. But it also does something deeper: it reconnects you with your body. In our fast-paced world, so many of us live in our heads—thinking, planning, overworking. Massage brings you back into your body, where healing begins.
Holistic medicine ties everything together by looking at the full picture—your lifestyle, your emotions, your environment, and how all of that impacts your health. When we treat the whole person instead of just isolated symptoms, true healing can happen. That’s why we take the time to really listen and create care plans that meet you where you are.
Mind-body healing isn’t about a quick fix—it’s about creating space for your body to do what it already knows how to do. Whether you’re dealing with chronic stress, pain, anxiety, or you just feel off, acupuncture and massage can gently guide you back to balance.
Come visit us at Acupuncture & Holistic Health Center, located at 4540 Southside Boulevard, Suite 302, right here in Jacksonville. Call 904-296-9545 to schedule your appointment for acupuncture, massage, or both. Let us help you reconnect, reset, and return to the best version of yourself.

Dr. Michael here!
Most people associate acupuncture with pain relief—and for good reason. It’s incredibly effective for back pain, neck tension, sciatica, and more. But what surprises many of our patients is how acupuncture also helps with so much beyond physical pain.
In fact, we often see people find relief in areas they never expected. Acupuncture works by stimulating the body’s natural healing systems, improving circulation, calming the nervous system, and restoring internal balance. This means it can support a wide range of health issues—both physical and emotional.
For example, acupuncture can help ease anxiety and stress by regulating cortisol levels and promoting relaxation. It also supports better sleep by calming the mind and resetting circadian rhythms. Many of our patients who struggled with falling or staying asleep notice improvement after just a few treatments.
Digestive health is another area where acupuncture shines. Whether it’s bloating, acid reflux, or IBS-related discomfort, acupuncture can regulate the gut and support a healthier digestive process. It also plays a powerful role in hormone balancing, helping with symptoms related to PMS, menopause, or fertility challenges.
We also see great results with sinus congestion, seasonal allergies, and even immune support. When your body is in balance, it’s more resilient—and acupuncture helps guide it back to that balanced state.
So while pain relief might be what brings people in, it’s often the unexpected improvements that keep them coming back. Acupuncture isn’t just for symptoms—it’s for your whole system.
Come visit us at Acupuncture & Holistic Health Center, located at 4540 Southside Boulevard, Suite 302, right here in Jacksonville. Call 904-296-9545 to schedule your next session. Let’s go beyond pain relief and support your health from the inside out.

Dr. Michael here!
If you’ve ever had to choose between acupuncture and massage for relief, here’s some good news: you might not have to. While both therapies are powerful on their own, together, they can create an even deeper level of healing and relaxation.
Massage works by loosening tight muscles, improving circulation, and calming the nervous system. Acupuncture does that too—but it also goes a step further, working with your body’s internal energy and systems to promote balance from the inside out. Think of massage as treating the muscles from the outside in, and acupuncture as working from the inside out.
Combining the two helps your body process stress, pain, and tension more efficiently. For example, if your muscles are tight from chronic stress, a massage might loosen them. But if that tension keeps coming back, acupuncture can help address the root cause—whether it’s stress, inflammation, poor sleep, or hormonal imbalance.
In our clinic, we often see patients who alternate between massage and acupuncture—or combine both in their care plan. And for many, it’s the perfect partnership. The truth is, you don’t need to choose one or the other. You just need the right balance for your body’s needs.
We offer both acupuncture and massage at the Acupuncture & Holistic Health Center. Whether you’re dealing with chronic pain, stress, anxiety, or just need a deep reset, combining these therapies may help you feel better, faster—and stay better, longer.
Come visit us, located at 4540 Southside Boulevard, Suite 302, right here in Jacksonville. Call 904-296-9545 to schedule your next acupuncture and massage session. Let our acupuncture physicians and licensed massage therapists work together to create a healing plan that works from both the inside and the outside.

Dr. Michael here!
Let’s talk about your first acupuncture appointment—especially if you’re someone who says, “I hate needles.” You're not alone. We hear that a lot. But what most people don’t realize is how different acupuncture needles are from the ones you’re used to.
They’re super thin—about the width of a human hair. Most people are surprised by how little they feel. In fact, many patients say, “Wait... that was it?” after their first needle is placed.
Your first visit starts with a conversation. We’ll go over your health history, your goals, and how acupuncture can help support your body’s natural healing. From there, we’ll create a customized treatment plan tailored specifically to you.
The treatment itself? You’ll relax on a comfortable table in a quiet, calming room. The needles are gently placed at specific points to activate your nervous system, improve circulation, and release natural feel-good chemicals like endorphins. You might feel a warm or tingly sensation—or nothing at all. Many people fall asleep!
The whole experience is designed to calm your mind, ease your body, and leave you feeling better than when you walked in. Even first-timers who were nervous say they feel peaceful, grounded, and often surprised at how easy and relaxing the session was.
If fear of needles has held you back, this is your sign to give acupuncture a try. It’s not about pain—it’s about healing, balance, and giving your body a chance to reset.
Come visit us at Acupuncture & Holistic Health Center, located at 4540 Southside Boulevard, Suite 302, right here in Jacksonville. Call 904-296-9545 to schedule your first appointment. We’ll walk you through every step and make sure you’re completely comfortable from start to finish.
