We are people with and without developmental differences sharing life together in the only L'Arche community in Florida!

We believe that by creating an environment where people with intellectual and developmental differences (IDD) can share their gifts, we are affecting a positive change in this world. We believe these shared gifts have the power to transform the lives of those who are open to receiving them. We celebrate the unique value of every person and recognize our need for one another. We explore and appreciate the diverse cultures and faith practices within L'Arche and endlessly strive to work together toward a more evolved and caring human society. Our community is made up of four family-style homes, our community center, and our Rainbow Workshop day program. L'Arche Jacksonville was founded as Harbor House in 1985 and joined the global L'Arche community in 1992. Founded in France, the L'Arche International Federation is over 150 communities strong spread over 35 countries worldwide. For over 50 years, L'Arche has brought about a revolution of quality of life for people who have developmental and intellectual differences. In our communities, we live, work, pray, and celebrate together, as a family. Our residents are called core members because they are not simply recipients of services, they are the cornerstone of our community, teaching us by example to live honestly, love freely, and be powerful advocates of change.

This weekend, Peace house went over to Greatfull house for breakfast! It’s nice to slow down on the weekends and spend time with friends in other houses! Happy Monday folks, may your week be filled with good times and good company ☀️

If you didn’t know, creating necklaces in the bead room is one of Michael’s favorite activities at our Rainbow Workshop. Everyday when you ask him what he did at Rainbow, he’ll respond, “beads, necklace, blue,” which means he participated in making a blue necklace out of beads. We’re so grateful to Mathis and Juliette from and Sarah, Caoilinn, and Connor from NDBridge at ! They spent their summer here sharing life in our three homes, building community, sharing gifts, and participating in daily living activities. We’re so grateful for their yes to L’Arche Jacksonville. Our homes may feel more quiet now, but the memories we made with them and the impact they had in our community will be remembered in our hearts 🩵

Lia, one of our assistants from Germany, shared a poem written about sharing life in Greatfull House for the past 11 months. We share stories like Lia’s to remain steadfast in our continued care and love for our core members, the true teachers of the heart. we had such a fun time with our friends from L’Arche communities across the southeast region! Our days were filled with sharing gifts, sharing meals, singing, dancing, connecting with old friends and making new ones!

Yer wizards, Greatfull house. This weekend there was a Harry Potter movie marathon at Greatfull filled with butter beer, sorting cookies that bestowed what house you’re in, and lots of fun! We had a wonderful time at the Family Fest this weekend with , sharing the gifts of our core members by selling their artwork/creations, spending time with L’Arche family, and sharing the mission of L’Arche to others! Jeff even met someone who owns his artwork and they were so excited to reconnect. We also think it’s safe to say our extra Ruby Jubilee fans were a hit!
