This National Salute to Veteran Patients, we’re proud to highlight the heart of our veteran volunteer program, the meaningful connections formed between veterans who continue to serve one another. Volunteer Maury Kimple shares his experience of giving back, while McKinley W. Wight, a 105-year-old U.S. Army Air Corps (U.S. Air Force) veteran and World War II hero, reflects on how much he enjoys spending time with Maury. Join us in honoring our veteran patients and the volunteers who walk beside them!

Join us in congratulating Dee Sommer from the Bailey Family Center for Caring for receiving a High Five pin for the exceptional care and compassion. A family shared how Dee went above and beyond not only in caring for their loved one, but in supporting them as well. She spent meaningful time at the bedside and gave a daughter the space to simply be a daughter. That kindness meant the world to her. Congratulations, Dee, and thank you for the difference you make every day!

Mabel Keaton Staupers was a trailblazer who fought tirelessly to break down racial barriers in nursing at a time when segregation was deeply entrenched in healthcare.

Her advocacy helped open doors for Black nurses in professional organizations, education, and military service, ultimately improving access to care for Black communities across the country.

At Community Hospice & Palliative Care, we honor leaders like Staupers whose courage paved the way for more equitable, compassionate care, then and now.
