Mabel Keaton Staupers was a trailblazer who fought tirelessly to break down racial barriers in nursing at a time when segregation was deeply entrenched in healthcare.

Her advocacy helped open doors for Black nurses in professional organizations, education, and military service, ultimately improving access to care for Black communities across the country.

At Community Hospice & Palliative Care, we honor leaders like Staupers whose courage paved the way for more equitable, compassionate care, then and now.

We were honored to recognize McKinley W. Wight, a 105-year-old U.S. Army Air Corps (U.S. Air Force) veteran who bravely served during World War II, during a special Veteran Pinning Ceremony.

William was pinned by Veteran Volunteer Maury Kimple and joined by Volunteer Coordinator Victoria Foster, who helped lead this meaningful moment of gratitude and recognition.
