This week we had a very special visitor in our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)! Melissa Ross, director of strategic initiatives and press liaison for the City of Jacksonville, joined our NICU read-a-thon and filled the room with joy as she shared two classic favorites: The Very Hungry Caterpillar and Rainbow Fish.
Her visit brought smiles, comfort and connection during Neonatal Awareness Month, and we’re so grateful for her support

Did you know that 1 in 8 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime? It’s the second leading cause of cancer death among men in the U.S.

The good news: early detection saves lives. Men should begin talking with their doctors about screenings between ages 45–50, and even earlier (40–45) if they’re at higher risk due to family history or race.

This month, let’s encourage conversations, raise awareness and support men’s health.

Our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit is kicking off their read-a-thon with a special donation from longtime supporter, Wayne Richardson (featured center). These books help support the read-a-thon happening September 8-18th. The event is part of a national initiative that promotes early literacy and brings comfort to our tiniest patients and their families. So far, over 40 books have been donated.

Richardson has been donating to our NICU since 2021 when his grandson, Carter was born at 25 weeks and spent 130 days in our care. His grandson is now 4 years old, living a healthy and thriving life. “Without care from UF Health’s NICU, Carter wouldn’t be where he is today,” said Richardson. He’s grateful for the compassionate care his grandson received and finds joy in being able to contribute to UF Health Jacksonville.
