While these symptoms are often tied to seasonal allergies, they can sometimes be confused with a cold or other respiratory concerns. And when over-the-counter medications don’t provide relief, it raises an important question: what’s the next step?

We spoke with Justin Nippert, MD, medical director for UF Health Emergency and Urgent Care Centers in Baymeadows and New Kings, about how to recognize your symptoms and ensure you’re getting the right care this spring.

“Lifestyle medicine doesn’t work because people are stuck in their ways.”

Not quite.

The truth? Lifestyle medicine isn’t about perfection. It’s about small, meaningful changes that fit into your life and grow over time.

Don’t let this misconception hold you back from feeling better, living longer, and taking control of your health—one step at a time.

Lifestyle medicine misconceptions, a physician’s approach to care and making simple lifestyle changes today. (This blog is part two of a two-part series on…

Lifestyle medicine focuses on preventing, managing, and often reversing chronic diseases through lifestyle changes. Making small, attainable habits is a practical way to build a healthy and realistic lifestyle that may transform your health in the long term. While genetics may play a role, they account for only 5–10% of chronic conditions. Your daily habits and environment play a role in whether these conditions develop. As we recognize autism awareness month, the goal is not simply to increase awareness, but to deepen understanding and strengthen inclusion. Every autistic person deserves to be seen for who they are, supported in ways that meet their needs, and treated with dignity in every setting. At UF Health we help create a healthcare community where autistic individuals and their families feel respected, understood, and welcomed. Learn how we can support patients, families and the community in our latest Health Matters blog post:

April is recognized as Autism Awareness Month, and increasingly as Autism Acceptance Month, a time to reflect on how we understand, support and include…

Students from the Youth Education for Advancing in Health (YEAH) program recently participated in an immersive hospital experience, exploring TraumaOne Flight and Ground Services and the Emergency Department.

During their visit, students gained valuable insight into how air and ground medical transport teams respond to critical situations, coordinate care, and safely transport patients in need of urgent treatment. They also learned about organ recovery services and the collaboration required to support lifesaving transplant efforts.

Experiences like this help broaden students’ understanding of emergency response systems and the essential role these services play across the health care continuum.
