A cataract is a clouding of the eye’s lens, which is normally clear. For many people, vision with cataracts can feel like looking through a foggy or frosted window.

Cataracts usually develop slowly. Early on, brighter lighting or updated eyeglasses may help. But over time, cataracts can make everyday activities—like reading, driving at night or recognizing faces—more difficult.

Common symptoms include:
• Blurry or dim vision
• Difficulty seeing at night
• Sensitivity to light or glare
• Halos around lights
• Fading or yellowing colors
• Frequent changes in glasses or contact lenses

If you notice changes in your vision, schedule an eye exam. https://mayocl.in/3N6gI2v

Mayo Clinic researchers are looking for individuals ages 21-35 and 70-85 to participate in a research study. The purpose of this study is to understand how adipose tissue influences skeletal muscle function and anabolic response to exercise in older adults. To better understand this, we are enrolling both young adults and older adults for comparison. Study participation includes 1 screening visit, 1 outpatient visit, and 1 overnight study visit in the Clinical Research Trial Unit at Saint Mary’s Campus in Rochester, MN. You will also have an MRI. Participating in this study involves blood draws and muscle and fat biopsies. Remuneration will be offered. Shrimp may sound like a special-occasion meal, but it’s a practical option for busy weeknights. It cooks in minutes, is high in protein and low in calories, and can easily replace your usual chicken routine.

A 4-ounce serving of uncooked shrimp equals one serving of protein.

With minimal time and a few pantry staples, shrimp can help get dinner on the table fast. Add shrimp to your meal plan this week. https://mayocl.in/4uftRqr

Mayo Clinic researchers are looking for individuals ages 18-80 years old with moderate to severe Crohn’s Disease (CD) to participate in a research study. This study will evaluate the safety of an investigational study medicine and how well it may work compared to placebo. A placebo looks like the investigational study medicine but contains no active ingredients.

You may qualify to take part in this study if you have had CD for at least 3 months and have not responded well or stopped responding to at least 1 CD treatment. There are additional requirements that determine if you may qualify to be in this study, which the study doctor will discuss with you. Colore**al cancer is a term that combines both colon and re**al cancers. The colon and re**um are two different parts of the lower digestive tract.

The colon is the first and longest part of the large intestine. It absorbs water and nutrients from digested food. The re**um is the last part, where stool is stored before exiting the body.

While the symptoms and tests to diagnose colon and re**al cancers are similar, knowing where your cancer starts can guide treatment decisions.

For patients waiting on a lung transplant, time matters. Ex Vivo Lung Perfusion (EVLP) allows physicians to assess and preserve donor lungs before transplant, making more organs viable and more transplants possible. By expanding the donor pool, EVLP helps more patients get the care they’re waiting for.

Kongmo began his career at Mayo Clinic in 2003 as a patient care assistant. Today, he is a nurse practitioner with a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree.

Along the way, he also served as a clinical nurse specialist — continuing to grow while caring for patients.

“It’s very rewarding when patients who travel from near and far leave with hope and a treatment plan that meets their needs,” he says.

Kongmo works alongside nursing and interdisciplinary colleagues each day to meet patients’ needs and make a meaningful difference in their lives.

He is one of many nurses at Mayo Clinic whose dedication and teamwork brings the mission of Mayo Clinic to life.

Dietary fiber refers to the parts of plant-based foods that your body can’t digest or break down. Unlike proteins, fats or simple carbohydrates, fiber passes through the digestive system largely intact. Because your body can't digest it, fiber becomes an important fuel source for the trillions of microbes that live in your gut.
